tipping is the dumbest idea in the world. just make a law that says 'nobody tips anyone anything'. problem solved

i sold ice cream for minimum wage. i could get 10 in tips on a saturday, not that great but its OKAY when you need some money to buy a cd.

i now tip almost everywhere i can cause it makes the people feel good that they did something and alot of people work on tips. but if the guy was gonna make a big deal bout it i'd say "fuck you"

we got $9 for every shift, which we basically just got so we would have change for the first few deliveries if we needed it. and then we got $1.85 per delivery. so when i say nothing, i'm exaggerating a little. but without tips, you'd be just about in the hole after paying for gas. i talked to a guy i delivered to about how he worked at a place that gave you $2 for each pizza delivered. which would have been good. but we didn't get that.

and i would never, ever demand a tip. when people stiffed me, i said 'have a nice night' and walked back to my car. i think it's shitty, but i'm not going to make a scene.

for the last time, i'm not going to apologize for that. i don't see a reason to. if you want to measure my worth based on how self-sufficient i am at the age of 19, go right ahead.

oh I assumed when I tipped doing takeout (not very much, maybe a few bucks) that it got split between that person and the cooks.

I used to work for barely above minimum wage at jc penney, and part of my job was wrapping presents.

now I haev to admit that I was quite good at it, and after a few years I became quite fast at it as well.

I think I only got tipped a handfull of times though.

I know its not customary to tip people wrapping your presents but I think it should be. especially when it was christmas and there were like 5 people waiting to have ridiclously sized things wrapped (wtf cant you put a huge bow on your exercise bike an call it good?) and 15 other people in line who wanted to be waited on in other respects.

i think the difference at this point in the thread brady is that you were getting a t least minimum wage while wrapping presents - while many servers and apparently delivery guys are paid less because they are paid on the expectation that they will receive tips.

I'd say, if anyone who delivers anything deserves to be tipped, its EMTs.

Disagree with me on this topic, sure, but the absolute most USELESS person in the world that should never be tipped is the person that takes your order when you call in an order to go, and then hands it to you when you come to pick it up. I know because I used to be that person, and for some reason I got tipped ALL the time and I NEVER once deserved it.
Okay I will agree with you there.

Tipping is an injustice. Restaurants are doing nothing but making the paying public not only pay huge markups on food but then foot the bill for the service as well.

jesus christ.
My food shouldn't be cold when it gets here. Sorry, but if you can't find my house, that's not my problem. That's what mapquest is for. And forgetting to take your phone number? There's no excuse for incompetance.

If the place is busy I can understand that, but my food better not be cold when it gets here. As for it being far away, most places have a select area they deliver to and if my house is too far to get a hot meal to, don't deliver here.

No, food places would just have to start actually paying you people.

I mean personally, it all comes down to this: why are you working there if it's so shitty? I mean, you COULD get a summer job as a server, you could get a summer job at a fast food restaurant. You could get a summer job at pretty much any other place, making at least minimum wage yet you choose to work at some shitty paying, sometimes humiliating job for what?

My friend worked as a pizza delivery guy and ended up having to drive out in this crazy storm with tornado warnings and shit, he had to stay after his scheduled hours and work and his boss treated him like shit. So you know what he did? He quit. Now he works at gamestop for minimum wage and gets to talk about video games all day and absolutely loves it.

Seriously, I can understand that sometimes delivery drivers get shit on but I'm not going to join in your little pity party because if it's that bad, all you have to do is find another place to work. It's not like being a delivery driver is the only thing a college student is qualified to do as a summer job. Get off it.

Let me start by saying that I do tip servers/delivery guys your standard 10-15% (and sometimes a lot more).

But seriously, the whole tipping thing is ass-backward. If you're going to tip someone for simply bringing your food from point A to point B, why shouldn't I get tipped for loading tons (yes, tons) of wood pellet fuel onto the back of someones pickup truck, bag by bag, by myself, outside in the cold?

I've worked at the same place doing the same thing for four years and I think I've received a total of 10 dollars in tips. If you're going to fork over money for some schmuck to escort your food, throw me a bone every once in awhile you faggot fucks. I can't tell you how pissed I get when some 30-something douchebag sits back and watches me load four-thousand pounds of shit into the back of his truck without offering to help.

You're not supposed to tip here in Denmark (or maybe all of Europe, I don't know). If a restaurant does do gratuity, they ******* it in the bill. For some reason, they just don't like tipping. I've been told that they actually consider it rude, for some reason. It's awesome!

Oh yeah, and I worked at a golf course where I was routinely tipped. Sometimes, I deserved it, like if I carried people's golf bags to their cart. Other times, I would be tipped for simply driving a golf cart up to a person, and saying "Here ya go". The tips ranged from $2 (normal), to $20 (once...I fixed someone's flat tire in the middle of the 8th fairway while other groups played through). This one time I got $10 for delivering a dude his keys that he had locked in his car. I had to drive about 30 seconds to the 3rd hole, which was right near the clubhouse. Easiest 10 bucks of my life.

golfers are generally rich, man

i used to play regularly, it was fairly common for dudes to place $100 bets on a single hole.

pretty good, pizza was good and the bf just went to the beerstore and we're gonna watch the hills on mtv on demand then go out later.

nate the grate: i think it's an all europe thing. my bff came back from europe a year ago, but i still have to remind her to tip the bartenders and she gets really annoyed. but then again she's a total jew with money, she's always trying to get into nights without paying cover.
