Look buddy, I've multitasked 3D Studio Max rendering an animation, photoshop, ftp and web browsing with no trouble. You can't even compare a mass-produced line (a Mac) with an arbitrary machine which could have any configuration of harware and software (a PC) - so what are you talking about?

Conceptually, Macs are better designed computers but they've been marketed all wrong, they're incompatible and a pain in the ass, and therefore useless.

because a mac processess information completely different than a PC. 3D Max and Photoshop at the same time with a web browser open*gasp* NO WAY! Congratulations your computer can run what 90% of high school graphics classess run on a daily basis. You need what 256 RAM to pull that one off? Gimmie a break.

Try something that stressess your comp a bit and can flex a bit of muscle.... Cubase with a ton of vsts open and running, using redrum from reason, recording with wave-lab, and editing with pro-tools is a common operation for even bedroom producers and stressess a PC quite a bit. It's practicly impossible to run reason in conjunction with cubase.... most computers either freeze or shut down the programs.

Could you at some point soup your computer up enough to accomplish what a mac does? Yes. But by the time you put in a large chunk of $$$ and are running a gig plus processor with a huge slab of ram you've managed to accomplish what a standard 700 mhz ibook can do.

It's like comparing an RX-7 to a honda accord. Granted you can do a lot more to an accord. You can soup it the fuck up, crank up your horse power, lighten it up all you want, do whatever you want to to make it faster.... but 90% of the time you'll still barely be as good as a standard RX-7.

Clint, you are a known bullshitter. I have a degree in Computer Science. You have no clue what you're talking about.

wow congratulations... and my girlfriend sitting next to me who works for sony as a 2d/3d graphics designer (currently on planetside) with a degree in industrial/transportation design is laughing at the fact you used 3d max and photoshop to try and show the strength of a PC in comparison to a MAC.

PS: they give away computer science degrees in family size boxes of frosted flakes.

That's ok man, I work with graphic designers - they know nothing about the machines they work on, they just get on with designing. But hey - you can always impress her with your knowledge of computer architecture and processing threads! Or run the demo files you got with Cubase, whichever

Good one. Did your imaginary graphics designer think that one up? By the way, how do you have so much time to spin whac shit when you're all wrapped up in your hazardous, and extremely top secret military electrical engineering?

Where are you quoting these prices from? I made myself a rig with some of the latest quality components, and ended up paying slightly over the price of your bare-bones system, and that's in CDN too.

(of course, a lot of my stuff was OEM, so I had to hunt down documentation and extra parts on my own, but the opportunity cost was virtually negligible)

i believe musicians use macs (and they all do) because of their zero latency rate, what with USB and all. only a musician would need it for that. and, oh yeah, pro tools

doesn't mean they're better all-purpose machines. they're still goddamn expensive.
