yeah but you can't just simply rid a military of power.... in my opinion no country should have gotten this powerful if anyone ever truely hoped for somewhat of a utopia.

but reality is humans are capitalistic.... we're an aggressive species. Like i said earlier someones gotta have the bigger penis. Good situation? no no no reality.... yes. If we take away a cops gun a criminal will take advantage of it.

Lets say all nukes are disposed of tomorrow.... the next day a knowledgeable criminal will be making an illegal one. Once again rough situation

There was a topic that had over 550 posts. Not sure how many pages that makes it, but that might be the most. And they all came in less than 11hours.

I'll admit that this arrest most likely is being used to try to generate some respect for the intelligence community, but then again, I see nothing wrong with that. They caught someone who was planning an attack on the US (while it was still in its early stages), and they deserve credit for that.

Then what's the point of creating a department of homeland security with no authority over the intelligence agencies? I thought this was designed to address the accountablity issues recently brought up in the Rowley memo.

That's all true, except that America is abusing its position. You can say that capitalism is natural, but the US tries to pretend it isn't happening, and most of its citizens aren't aware that other parts of the world are getting fucked over to make America more powerful. This is what I was getting at with the 'be the bigger person' statement - it may be natural to want to gain power and rule the world, but we should be beyond that kind of thing. In the current climate, cops need guns - but they're meant to keep the peace, as a moral authority. They aren't meant to use their guns to push people around. The US likes to present itself as a protector of the world, when it is anything but. Its sad, because America could do great things for civilization

What's even sadder is that its citizens REFUSE to know what's going on. Ignorance and bliss over knowledge and anger... I suppose that makes sense in an 'I feel so happy' sort of way, but in a more realistic way, PEOPLE ARE DYING.

I think most americans are well aware of what's going on... i know i'm perfectly aware of what's going on. I know we exploit our position in the world.... the difficulty is I've grown up with this exerted amount of freedom and wouldn't give it up for anything.

If you'd had as many americans say "no, that's not what's happening at all... CNN says this..." as I have, you would probably agree with my statement more.
As for freedom... it's being taken away because you won't stand up to your corporations, who enjoy cutting off rights for profit. Whoo-whee, that's an exerted amount of freedom alright!

A) I'm sorry the americans you talk to are morons.... the ones i speak with on a daily basis are fairly educated. But i guess it's who your surround yourself by.

B) I've yet to have any of my freedoms taken away ever... nor have I felt anything in the way of big corporations taking anything away from me. So pardon me when I say you're talking out your ass. Corporate America has very little direct effect over middle class America thus the reason middle class America doesn't sympathize with less fortunate persons.

Uh, dumbass, corporations are destroying the middle class. You can't say that some of the policies made by your congress aren't blatantly in favour of corporate interest and ONLY corporate interest.
Don't be a retard now.

Even though I don't necessarily agree with your point of view, I can see why you argue the way you do.

In some ways, we all live the comfortable lives we do because big business exploit faceless others in far-off countries. Let's hope the tables are not turned.

Whoever you surround yourself by, the point is that the majority of the population is not educated in these matters. Besides, if you're in the military you should have a fair idea of world events, and be able to draw your own inferences - so that's another skew. As for corporate power... it affects your life in many ways, some you may not care about, some you may not even be aware of. From Wal-Mart using its market share to force censorship on music and printed media, through mass advertising saturation of daily life, to the basic fact that jobs are being moved where the labor is cheaper. And don't forget small businesses being run out by huge corporate chains - are you telling me these people aren't in the middle class?

In my eyes corporate takeover to an extent is better for the middle class. If Earthlink runs a local ISP out and the 10 persons at the local ISP are out of jobs but the mass amounts of users spend less and the machine which is earthlink employs 15 in place of those 10 persons is that actually negative? Granted joe blow is out of $$$$ but the thousands of other joe blows have more $$$$ So which is worse? Pick your poison i guess.

If you want to look at farmers and talk about true corruption to the middle class lets look at the outrageous trade agreements other countries want that put our farmers out of work. It's simply justified because it is a foreign country and not a foreign company. However if you think about it the government of a foreign country used as such is simply a glorified corporation.

So which is more influential on the middle class? Which one is the middle class more likely to CHOOSE to feel?

don't get me wrong im not saying there is absolutely no corporate influence im just saying its not entirely negative and not entirely worth whining about if you step back and look at the cycle of human life. My life does not change when two corporations merge. My life does not change when something like Enron happens.

don't bullshit me with farmer issues. Farmer subsidies is the ONLY way for a country to be self sufficient. Agri-foods in the USA and Mexico would give INSANE control to the United States over the rest of the world if that wasn't in place. It's not UNFAIR at all; it's common goddamned sense. Quit complaining and subsidize your farmers like the rest of the world.
