I just want the right to live in a free society with a roof over your head and food on your plate so long as you work for it.
That basic aim is dying, although it's being touted mockingly by governments all over the world.

But the US has caused many many more deaths in other countries, and felt justified in doing so. Where do you draw the line? Besides, how can you declare war against a multinational terrorist group? You can attack a country, but given they're separate from each other, you aren't really meting out justice where it's needed

It was probably because I thought you were just here to tell people to stop coming on to Desi http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/biggrin.gif

But you're still a potential terrorist - did you read that section of the PATRIOT ACT where it talks about 'defending the northern border'?! http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/icons/icon11.gif

You can.

A non-government entity attacked U.S. civilians on U.S. soil...it was a non-military action...it's just different.

And we'll see more changes to social policy as the war drags on and as more Democrats are elected to Congress.

Ouch my head.
Yeah, I'm reading it now... most of it is fine, but parts are really... ugh.
Especially the definitions relating to terrorism just post.

On a related note, check out Michael Moore's Office of Homeland Security at:

http://www.michaelmoore.com/homeland/homeland.html

Some highlights:
Quote:
So the CIA knew this, and the FBI knew that. And they did nothing. But THEY will not be part of Bush's new cabinet department for HIS Office of Homeland Security. No, of course not! Why have the two of them stinkin' up the room? And what do THEY have to do with making sure SICKOS DON'T KILL US??!! No, instead, W. is going to whip the Coast Guard and the fruitfly inspectors at Immigration into shape, those lazy bastards! No wonder our lives are still in jeopardy -- it's the out-of-control toll collectors at the Windsor Tunnel! Thank God the FBI and the CIA will be allowed to continue on their own separate paths, kicking the crap outta each other, and answerable to no one. AS IT SHOULD BE!! I mean, where would we be today (and how many may have lived) had the FBI not siphoned off the resources of 200 full-time FBI agents who spent the better part of the late '90s on the Clinton-Lewinsky case -- investigating the national security crisis of how to get a stain out of a blue dress! What if they had been doing their REAL job -- like investigating dip-shit flight training schools in Florida and Texas and SAVING PEOPLE'S LIVES?! What a waste of time! And still, to this day, not a single apology from any Republicans for that costly misdirection of police protection. (You see, if I were to go call 9-1-1 right now and send the cops off to some stupid non-crime scene, I would be arrested. When the Republicans did it, they got the White House.)
Also, the rest of Michael Moore's website is really interesting.

David

Since then the US have been very cold to any military training/involvement in training with us.

That what happens when you stand up to the US - you get the cold shoulder.

Look at Canada. We've been nice, but of course, it was possible for people to get across the boarder into the USA... even though they trained in the USA... yadda yadda. Just someone to blame and an excuse to be pricks.

The NZ public overwhelmingly support a nuclear free world. I personally don't but I'm in the minority here. In the 80's NZ fell out with the United States because the US insisted that NZ allow nuclear powered vessels to port in NZ.

New Zealand still offers military support to the US. Mainly medical, aircraft and SAS troops. I don't beleive we have any joint training operations. We fell out again when the US stripped the F-16 deal with Pakistan. We got the F-16 deal at a bargain price but after the deal was informally made we elected a new government that cancelled the deal. That didn't please the US.

Both situations arose out of the NZ public making a political stance or through democratic election. The US now classes NZ as an "friend". We're not "allies".

Helen Clarke visited Washington this year and faced warm welcomes from Bush and Powell where NZ was affirmed as a "friend", but not an "ally". They also thanked us for our SAS troops in Afghansistan. Remember friends, not allies.

There's a quote from a senior US official that goes something like.

"We part company as friends, but we still part company"

It's all bullshit. NZ is an ally with the US. We have differences of opinion, backed by puclic support which the US doesn't approve of.

NZ public don't want nuclear ships here. The US does. NZ pays the price. Fighting for democracy you see.

Which is why I never said any such thing. Find a quote for me. Or two. Anything where I say something along the lines of "I think Americans think this".

You can't.

You will however see me talking about what America DOES. You see me using the words BUSH, Government, Administration.

On the occassion where I say "America" I mean America as in the American government and the associated aperatus. I don't mean "Americans" despite your attempts to insist that I do.

new zealand has little power in the worlds rotation. They have nothing to lose nor gain as far as their position in the world so of course they'll be anti nuke. They have no means to carry out successfull nuclear development and progress in a military stance and in the same light they have nothing to protect requiring nuclear power.

Now I know you're gonna get into "America blah blah blah shouldnt need nukes as they shouldnt have that much power blah blah blah" yeah of course we shouldnt need them but until the planet earth is a utopia someone has to have the bigger penis.

Not my personal opinion on the way life should be.... but a simple reality that can't just be switched off.

And you do? You're telling all of us that you know what every american is thinking? Remember, America is a country that is full of people born outside it's borders. What you think and what America thinks may be entirely different things, and just because they may not all think the same as you doesn't make them any less a patriotic citizen.

when have i implied that i do? saying he has no clue what americans think is kind of a "no shit" kinda comment that should be blatantly obvious which led into me stating his implications.

thus also the reason i said "we're a democracy (loose statment i know)" implying there are many different but generaly shared in some form opinions.

my opinions differ far far farrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from most americans wayyyyyyyyyyy far. i dont know what people think nor do i care nor do i imply i do know or even imply i give a shit

dunno whose ass you pulled that out of but gimmie some
