And to counteract your point - why don't the US play baseball against Japan or Cuba? Fuck, even softball gets played on a global level by more than 3 countries.

Generally, the baseball teams on the US aren't just Americans. Fuck, they consist of the Japanese, Koreans, Mexicans, Cubans, South Americans, Puerto Ricans, Australians and Italians. The baseball teams in America are basically the best from all around and the prodigys of those listed and more so nationalities. It really is the best of the best.

And even if the Major League went against the Japan League or something of the sort, the Japan League would most likely be slaughtered.

um...maybe it would, but like you've just said, the Major League in US is made up of loads of different nationalities. the whole point of an international tournament is that you have to be a native of a country to represent them*. hence, all the japanese, mexicans, cubans etc from your league would be playing AGAINST you.

* excludes the Rupublic of Ireland's football team...
