Default so im a tech support agent now

currently in training.

official title is product specialist in the high speed data department.

i appear to be the least qualified with the least background of everybody in my training class. most of these people have certifications in acronyms i don't know the meanings of. i'm trusting that everything i'll need to know will be covered in training.

all it took to show my previous knowledge of computers was a 7 question mutiple choice test with questions like "How do you access the DOS prompt in Windows XP" and "What is a Trace Route?".

i have no idea of the size of the behemoth that lay in the shadows before me over the next three weeks. so just to forewarn people like Nimrod's Son and DeviousJ, i'm probably going to ask a lot of stupid questions about networking that will probably make you feel like you're talking to a retard.

so i'll just keep them contained in this thread.

traceroute is a computer network tool used to determine the route taken by packets across an IP network. An IPv6 variant, traceroute6, is also widely available.

The traceroute tool is available on practically all Unix-like operating systems. Variants with similar functionality are also available, such as tracepath on modern Linux installations and tracert on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Windows NT-based operating systems also provide pathping, which provides similar functionality.
