the only reason animal products are cheaper is because there is so much "surplus material" / by-products of the meat industry.
despite the fact that it utilizes less water, land and money overall for producing foods agriculturally.

america: industry above all else. lol @ obese chilluns.

i don't even care about this really; i havent eaten a snickers in years and i am embarrassed at PETA and most animal rights groups. they make vegetarians look bad. but any opportunity to rip on the stupidity of my nation is taken.

whatever; my point was that it's obviously less efficient and more costly in the long run to use animal products because you have to funnel so much food and water into the animals as opposed to if you were growing crops.

if we're like native americans and buffalo, how come we's killed all the buffs?
where's our respect for nature?

actually, once the sioux tribes on the high plains got the horse they started doing irrevocable damage to the ecosystem. The horses started eating all the buffalo's grazing land, which killed buffalo and then in turn started killing horses and indians. Indeed, since becoming mounted, the Sioux were overpoaching the buffalo since they had greater mobility and didn't rely on dogs as pack animals. by the time white settlers started making their way across the great plains to colorado the sioux were in dire straits. their whole society had been turned upside-down with civil strife brought on by starvation and the threat of whites.

well from what i have learned the sioux werent the friendliest people overall. not exactly the spitting image of what most people would think of when they think of the native americans.

i'm not going after the vegetarians here, because they are just following their ideology, but people who have been insinuating that they kill calves just to make that enzyme are pretty fucking stupid.

They make it sound as if they're killing animals just to make Snickers bars.

Dom, that sounds wonderful! Did you make your own seitan or buy it in the store? Chris and I tried once to make our own about 6 months ago and it was the worst cooking disaster ever. We went off a recipe online, though... Now we got this cookbook that has a recipe, so maybe we'll have better luck with that. It's supposed to take like 3 hours?

Oh God, seitan and asparagus sounds sooooo good. Squeeze some lime and pepper on that shit.

I'm trying really hard not to go down to this cafe a few blocks away and get cajun seitan burgers 'cause I've been eating out too much lately as it is. Luckily, they close at 2, so sleeping in really nips those plans in the bud. But seriously. Seitan. Drooool.

Oh man, I love places like that. Over spring break we visited my best friend in Oakland, and he took us to this awesome vegan / veg restaurant that had the same kind of menu... Lots of fake meat that looked and tasted too real to not be meat. It made ordering really hard, because I'm so used to censoring my thoughts when I look at a menu, "Can't have that, can't have that, or that, etc." It was fun being like "Yeah, I'll have the chicken curry, please!"

You know what's weird? Someone was just telling me about that place the other day! Spooky.
