I'm a compulsive ingredients checker.

I don't know of any specific websites, but I'm sure they wouldn't be hard to find, especially if you just did a search for some kind of vegan guideline website. Even if you aren't vegan per se, there are a lot of things they put into stuff that the average person would probably be repulsed by. Like cochineal and carmine-- crushed up bugs used for their red dye (usually in make-up and food coloring) and stuff like that.

i think i could go vegetarian without too much of a problem, but i'd still want to eat turkey and fish.
buuut sometimes i just get a craving for a steak. i wonder if there are any humane meat producing companies out there....you know they give the cow its last meal and read it some last rights before they lethally inject it.

If you want humanely killed meat, opt for kosher or halal meat.

i used to have mood swings where i'd go from just above suicidal to just above homicidal, but that could have just been due to being that age. birth control helped!

You're welcome, but you should read the other link posted-- in a matter of a week a bunch of angry vegetarians made them go back to their old recipe!

You know what you should do? Eat whatever you want and don't worry about becoming "vegetarian."

I don't know about pharmaceuticals exactly, but I do know that Oil of Olay uses sheep fat or wool grease or something to that extent. Lanolin is the precise term.

Well, unless you're into the whole animal rights activism, I think labelling yourself as a vegetarian is kind of silly. If it's a matter of being more healthy, you shouldn't worry about "I want to stop eating meat, but sometimes I crave this." If you ask me, cravings are fine. I try not to eat a lot animal products or dairy just to be more healthy, but I wouldn't call myself a vegan 'cause, like you, I get those cravings. Skip the label, and just be happy.

As far as restrictions go, being a vegetarian isn't incredibly strict-- being a vegan is a whole 'nother story.

it's kind of ridiculous how these enzymes are only available from the stomach of a calf. It's like people went out specifically looking for what useful crap they could find in the most horrendous places. They're going to be testing dolphin embryo retinas soon to check whether there's any useful shit in there.

I was watching some documentary about genetically modified foods, which was pretty interesting. At the end they brought out a piece of meat that was created entirely in a petri dish using stem cells (cow). I think they tried eating it, but they didn't mention how it tasted..
I kind of hope in the future we'll be getting meat like that, rather than from harvesting animals; not sure how likely that is though.

i think becoming a "meatless with occasional indulgences" person really depends on what kind of personality you have. some people can do it. i know that i would get lazy if i made exceptions, so i'm okay with having a label like that. plus, i can't remember the last time i had a craving for anything that there wasn't a meatless substitute for.

tofurkey sauages in my spicy pasta sauce tonight!
