+44's cover of I Am One is up. It sounds like a shit-tastic Blink182 cover of the original...not a whole lot is different about it, but at least they didn't gay it up as bad as a lot of the bands did (P!ATD).

I see...my bad. I only saw the +44 cover because it was on the front page. I haven't liked any of the covers at all so far.

Jesus Christ. I haven't heard any of the other tributes, but I just finished listening to the "I Am One" cover. That was the most uninspired piece of carbon copy garbage I've ever heard in my life.

The lead singer of The Bravery was interviewed on TV and asked how he gets titles for songs.. and he said usually from lyrics.. and he said "remember smashing pumpkins, those titles never had anything to do with the song.. like Gish, or slush, or slurp.. very confusing"

what an idiot, why did they even cover SP

I back the opinion that this "effort" went right down the shitter when the Deftone's were either omitted or backed out of it.

They are big SP fans and have actually shown a great ability to put down some excellent covers, like the Cures "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" and Weezer's "Say It Aint So".

Too bad the people that set this up are morons. The Deftones would have fucking obliterated Siva, perhaps that is why they arent on it... their effort would have made the rest even more deplorable.

But that insinuates that they don't make themselves look deplorable as it is, and I simply can't agree with a statement like that.

I've been so busy with downloading the concerts and such that i forgot all about the tribute songs! I'll give Test Your Reflex credit because they managed to make the new approach to the song interesting.

On the official SP site they posted this link to the Academy Is website... apparently they show/talk about the making of their Mayonaise cover.. (haven't watched it yet).. maybe it shows them getting permission from BC.. and James, technically.. hah

From one of the cover bands:

"A few weeks ago we recorded a cover of "Mayonnaise," our favorite Smashing Pumpkins song. When I started re-working a demo for it, we suddenly realized that we may have chosen one of the hardest Smashing Pumpkins songs to cover... the original is an absolute masterpiece. I listened to it about 30 times in one day to get all the parts right. It took me back to being 15 and my sister left her copy of "Siamese Dream" in the computer. I fell in love with Smashing Pumpkins instantly, particularly that song. If you go onto to our MySpace site, you can hear how the song turned out, I am quite happy with it, I think we did well and I like William's vocal delivery when we hit the first chorus!"
