Siamese dream next, then if that all goes well onto Pisces Iscariot (b-sides & outtakes from Gish - Siamese Dream), then move onto Adore (Dark Electropop / Acoustics / No Jimmy)

if you can, listen to their MCIS singles box set "The Aeroplane Flies High (turns left, looks right)" next.
it's sort of rare and expensive, but it's MCIS b-sides and has about 20 songs that didn't make the album but sound similar, plus a few covers and stuff as well.

other than that i'd say "siamese dream", then "gish", then "pisces iscariot", then "adore" and onwards (machina, machina II, judas o etc.)

definitely Siamese Dream and then you wanna try to get The Aeroplane Flies High, which is a box set full of 28 mostly amazing mellon collie b-sides. there are many, many songs on it that are easily as good as those that made the album.

Once I ordered a medium portion of fries with mayonnaise. That was not the best order to get into the Pumpkins. Just letting you know so you won't make the same mistake.

try to get a hold of some pre-gish stuff if you can. although lesser in audio quality, songs like nothing and everything, east, jennifer ever, and bye june will surely propel you into pumpkin obsession.

Also, check out some live recordings. sometimes the energy and power of a live performance makes the album versions of songs pale in comparison.

Attention Gish-Lovers: I know it's hard for you, but please be aware that most people will not like Gish on first listen. There is a reason why it wasn't a commercial success.

made the mistake of getting the 89 demos early on in my pumpkins collecting experience.. it almost ruined my appreciation for the band... i listened to them once, became disgusted, and put them on the shelf for a long time.

However, after having heard/listened to all the records over and extended period of time, i found that i had a new appreciation for the demos as i had a better understanding where they started and what they developed into. On the surface though, those recordings are bad to a first time pumpkins listener.

Buy greatest hits that way you can hear a few songs from each of thier albums. I started off listening to greatest hits and loved all of it, so I bought every album along with the greatest hits DVD and vieuphoria within a year.

dont ask for advice on getting into the pumpkins from people who posted on a pumpkins board about pumpkins news and songs years after they broke up. go to another music board and ask someone who likes them. everyone here hates adore, but adore is their second best album.

"i like 1979 and zero" listen to "perfect" and "ave adore" on adore. you'll probably like them. when youve listened to all their major albums and want to know more come back and ask which live version of "windowscreen tulip" you should download first

death for cutie, you shithead. you don't fucking DOWNLOAD an album like siamese dream you fickle cheapskate. either you seriously care about this band and buy their record, or you can go listen to some other shit. i met a "big pumpkins fan" last week and when i asked him how much he'd heard he said "well, i've got 150 songs on my computer" then i asked if he'd actually bought any of the records and he said no. i wanted to break his fucking face.

If you love MCIS, get The Aeroplane set, because every album era has such a different sound. After playing Mellon, and TAFH incessantly for a year, then got Siamese Dream and so stupidly didn't like it much until Disarm came on and smacked me upside the head. Then I came to my senses and opened my mind to the album.
TSP changed so much each time, you will see why great albums like Adore shocked so many casual fans.
Ease into the 365+ song-catalogue like an old man into a hot bath. I didn't like Gish or PI right away just because of drastic style changes. Now I'm recovered from insanity and love them, but start with the HITS and you'll come to love it all

tl, dr
