Default a new era of classic songs?

Everyone knows the smashing pumpkins live performances have created a lot of different versions of the songs we're all familliar with from the albums, (obviously, as any band does), but theyve even had a knack for switching up the styles multiple times to suit the albums theyve premoted and to fit exactly the feeling of each concert they play, ex: adore era 1979, later days bwbw with a lack luster vocal performance claimed to be the final evolution of the song, pug (with jimmy) or even the mutated version of to sheila. now, with that in mind, billy said once that he would never play the hits again unless he was "there with the music", so do you think when they tour and play theyre going to rework the original songs into something new? he says tunes are being dusted off, but i cant see him reverting back to things in the same way. i expect a whole new sound just from the fact that theyve had time to look back at all their work. what do you think?

Porcelina Machina style is enough to show me that things can get more awesome.

I'm not sure I've heard anything of the sort... Do you know if there are any good examples online at RSPAA?

definitely agree about Machina era Porcelina...not to mention Machina era Snail (from storytellers) -- both awesome.

the only song that they changed up that I never liked was the Adore era Thru the Eyes of Ruby. It was WEAK. Glad they went back to the MCIS-ish version for the Farewell shows.

However, if Billy has to train new memebers, chances are they will stick with the album versions...at least initially. Jimmy said at the Blue Island drum clinic that most of the live jams (thru the eyes of ruby, silverfuck, xyu, etc.) developed live..though they may incorporate riffs they've messed around with, they really get a life of their own on the live stage. therefore, i predict the later tour dates to have more of an evolvement, rather than the earlier ones.

yeah the new SP will change up the old songs. They will be molded to fit the current theme of the album as usual. But I will say that Cherub Rock will most likely not be altered at all if they play it.

Nevermind the above. I think I would like to hear thru the eyes of ruby crushing my car stereo into dust as I walk into the ocean letting the tide take me out to the sharks.

Jimmy also did say that they were going to do heavy practice for a month and a half before heading out on tour

so davins droppin blue island drum clinics on our ass now, nice.

side note on that evening.....i took my little brother to that bar. with the ticket i bought him, he won the cymbal at the end of the raffle. i won nothing. i THINK that was the highest prize they had. so i let him keep it, im pretty cool like that. on our way out i told him to have jimmy sign it. a couple years later i asked him to get it out so i can take a picture, it had been "collecting dust in his closet" ever since. but no, the little jerk gave i away to one of his friends and it was now ruined.
i was pissed, (and maybe still am?) cos i coulda used it! and jimmy signed it.

blue island.

I would think Billy would be smart enough to hire someone who actually knows music theory and can therefore jam and improvise along with a live band with ease.

what if they jam so much time rock and roll that the old song sounds like new songs and are memorable? welcome to the black parade...

I'm with you on these predictions. Except I would say the songs fit the mood of the current tour more than the current album. A subtle difference.

I always think about this when I listen to all my stuff and I always end up going with MCIS. Just set track 1 on repeat.

They'll open with a new song. They'll be doing everything in their power to keep this from being a touchy, feely, greatest hits reunion tour.

i really dont think opening with behold! the nightmare would imply a greatest hits tour, but i get what you mean.

Have they played Behold! outside of the Adore tour? I've always loved that song... Some of my favourite lyrics...

"withstood the suitors quiet siege"...

He does know how to write well... And then we get something like "2007 (from Billy)"... Go figure.
