Default official 'news' from 1998 - Japanese needed

Dated 98/05/14
this is the additional official Japanese booklet for the Japanese Adore edition

I haven't seen this translated yet.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The only stuff written there in English are song titles and recording info (engineers, mix assistants, publishers) for 'Once in a While' on the left side.
In the text itself the only English written stuff is 'LET ME GIVE THE WORLD TO YOU', 'DJ', "I 'm in love with sadness", 'Someday I'll follow you and see you on the other side'.

If there is actually someone who knows Japanese and can translate it, I can send him a high res thing.

forward the high-res image to songlist@spfc.org and I'll forward it to Agnew. he can probably translate it...or find someone who can. he is, afterall, in japan.

I see. If I find some time, I will scan some more this weekend. Maybe we can find someone who will translate them all?

I wonder what "Nilvana" means.

The Japanese interpretation of the English lyrics are usually hilarious too.

In Japanese there is no proper L sound but their R's are kinda like a mixture between R and L if you can imagine what I mean at all. That's why the two get mixed up sometimes when Japanese people write in English.

Anyway I could attempt to translate that if the photo wasn't so low-res and I could actually read the text. There a higher res one I can look at without beign a member of photobucket?

Some guy named 17 answered this several years ago when I asked. All I remember is the mention of LMGTWTY is just that it was recorded and not featured on the album.

Hm. Well, it's gotta be around somewhere. Basically, it just talks about the making of the album, and the transition from coming off of Mellon Collie, I think. It's been a while.

I just moved to Japan. Tool tickets go on sale tomorrow, but I'm scared I won't be able to buy them because I don't know any Japanese yet. Does anyone know someone like Agnew that can help me order them?

Definitely too low-res. Certainly interested in what it says though.

my scans: http://users.telenet.be/crush/images/japscans/
this was way more work than i thought it would be. if anyone would ever have the courage to translate all of it, good luck.

i focused on the parts that were not lyrics/tracklists. the results are usually the japanese notes, i assume about the band history and the new album.
sometimes there is also some extra news/advertisement about other releases, i think. these scans are marked as "extra".

note: i think the notes on the two gish releases contain the same text. i didn't double check that though.

note 2: on the lull scans, you can see the '92 japanese tour dates. apparently there was a lot of vagueness about these dates until some poster surfaced recently. i guess the lull scans can count as a second confirmation.

note 3: earphoria is missing. i don't have that one. as a bonus, i included scans of the japanese release of let it come down.

question: when it comes to japanese lyrics or for example that japanese translation of billy's notes on pisces iscariot, are these real translations? or just phonetic interpretations of the english text?
i mean, if someone in japan reads them, will he understand the meaning of those words or just produce sounds that are similar to the english words?

Much better. But, before checking them all out myself, which ones seem to have different content? I'll see if my pal can read them.

There's a phonetic script in Japanese called katakana which is used to transcribe foreign words, so anything written in that script will usually sound like the English (or whatever). Japanese has some foreign loanwords, which are written in katakana, and their meanings will be understood because they've been integrated into the Japanese language - anything else probably won't be understood by people in general. Katakana's the simple, pointy script you see dotted around the PI scans (the very first bit says 'birii C kara no messeeji', meaning '(A) message from Billy C' - the words in italics are katakana). Most of it's in regular Japanese so they should be able to understand it fine
