I went to Scratchie Records today

I was in New York City with my family so my brother and I thought we'd stop by Scratchie Records. It was hard to find because I was expecting some big building on a better street but instead it was an old building with no sign saying Scratchie anywhere. There was a little cloth awning thing that said 239 STUDIO - STUDIO 239 so I knew that had to be it. I rang the doorbell and after like 2 minutes this hipster comes to the door barefoot and I said "Hi I'm a student and I'm doing a cultural experience project for English and I'm a big fan of Mr. Iha, is he here?" The guy said that James is out of the country right now (I didn't inquire where) and that you never know when he'll be in or out. I didn't really expect to see James there or even anyone to open the door but the coolest part was that you could see an office with a big window on the second floor and right in full view on the wall was a framed picture of the Gish album cover that looked neat because the door eye hole was sticking out.

I thought it was a better story than that TPQ Meeting thread. That was a fucking waste of time. At least you met a Mannie the Hippie type character.

You know, you can build off that in future stories to your kids.. embellish it a bit.

"This hippie with no shoes or socks and a peg leg answered the door and exhaled a large drag of the cone-shaped Bob Marley-style spliff into my face. I felt like punching his lights out, but instead asked 'Where's my buddy James, we was supposed to jam this afternoon...' and at that point the dirty hippie asked me for some spare change. I punched his lights out and decided it wasn't worth the time."

See? EASILY makes an interesting story just because you meet a character in an otherwise bland situation.

davin this is upsetting. is there anyway your friend could have confused an asian as james? Anyway, he probably was out of the country on the holidays for vacaction and didn't stop by Scratchie to tell anyone he was back.

Yeah, that could have been ANYONE. Considering not only do asians look mostly all alike, but they also secretly strive to be Caucasian women, so look at James and tell me you couldn't walk outside in Chicago like I do all the time and find someone who looks remotely similar to James.

I have lived in Chicago almost my whole life, and therefore I have gotten to know plenty of people in the "music scene" around here (CRC, venues, local labels, local bands, booking agents, a&r reps, talent mgmt people, etc.). Everyone I know KNOWS i love the pumpkins. Therefore, whenever they see or hear anything pumpkins related...THEY FUCKING TELL ME. Its like a living, breathing RSS feed DeviousJ!
