I think my parents are forcing me to go to an uncle's house to eat with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and various other in-laws about whom I don't know very much at all. I just want to have one single Thanksgiving with just my immediate family, for once.

What are you up to for Thanksgiving?

It's looking to be a calm thanksgiving at home with my parents and grandmother and then maybe taking in a late movie or visiting my aunt and cousins if they're willing to accept us into their households. it's a crapshoot this year but i think it'll all turn out fine

thats what im doing as well. we play a fun game of "avoid my dads side of the family". the whole time no one talks to anyone esle because we only see these people like 3 times a year. its terribly awkward.

we have the same problem with my moms side of the family. none of them are ever interested in getting together as a family or even calling one another to give some happy thanksgiving wishes. it's a feeling of being torn between feeling slightly bad they don't care and at the same time we equally don't care that much

this is one of my fave holidays - it's a reason the family gets together and hangs out, and NO GIFTS ARE EXPECTED it's like.. getting together because you actually want to be together.

and for the food i guess. there's good food too..

thanksgiving food > any other holidays food...unless of course you have a turkey dinner for a different holiday. i try to avoid eating turkey other times throughout the year just to make this dinner seem more special
