I found out the other day that the tune that goes "I'm still looking for a Heart of Gold" with the harmonica bit is a Neil Young song.

It's not easy to read all 1100 pages of A. Shrugged

I love that song, I didn't know it was Neil. I'm kind of dumb sometimes.

I also want to know who maskes the song that goes "green eyed lady/lovely lady" and has a funky bass riff.

That's because it's crap. Just because it's hard to read or it's really long does not make it good or interesting.

Atlas Shrugged was awesome almost solely because the protagonists agreed with my beliefs, and it actually explored egoism as it should be, and the characters and novel make arguments that apply to real life. It would be boring as hell if every book was like that, but it's good to have one novel that isn't interesting just because of quirky characters or writing style, but because of what it's actually saying. And God I hate books where the protagonist is a weak fuck that you don't give a damn about.

absolutely it is more far fetched. god is by definition apart from the physical world, you can hypothesize until youre blue in the face over his existence. but saying there was this slut mary who had some angel come to her and tell her that she was bearing the child of god is an objective claim pertaining to the real world and anybody with the most rudimentary understanding of anything would rule something this moronic out at first blush. this really is equivalent to believing the world is flat or that the moon is made out of cheese. you either respect and obey reason and evidence and proof or you dont. there fundamentally no difference between doing that with one thing and another, beyond the fact that one has this gloss of divinity over it that seems to have the effect of erasing all demands that it live up to the same standards of proof as everything else has to, and should
Your analogies suck. People have been to the moon, and we've seen the world. So unless you have video evidence of Mary getting fucked by some dude, you make no sense. And if you believe in an all-powerful God, which according to you isn't far-fetched, then you have to believe that he has the power to do whatever the fuck he wants. so if he wants some virgin to give birth to him, he can.

It's an incredibly shallow philosophy and selfishness is not a virtue. The fact that people find justification for their own egotism is the only reason Rand is relevant still. As a thinker she's hardly ever mentioned in any kind of meaningful conversation.

You should probably read Hayek and Friedman if you like that sort of stuff and stop talking about Rand altogether.

Selfishness is a virtue if you think the purpose of life is happiness

but belief isnt the default position here. the right thing to do when there isnt enough evidence for some claim is to not believe it, not to actually believe it despite the absence of evidence. the burden of proof is on the people making the claims.

and, besides, some claims are fairly unaffected by time. if i tell you that way back in ancient rome, men could fly, you dont have to go back to rome to collect proof that men couldnt fly. men cant fly, and god doesnt come down to impregnate back alley sluts. this "yeah but he could, who knows?" attitude that some people have isnt sensible at all. i mean if thats enough to justify belief than, fuck, we can believe in absolutely anything. its ironic considering how much they hector against it, but in practice religious people are some of the most relativist of all

no theres a big difference between this personal, monotheistic god that listens to prayers and personally creates things, and the "god" that people like einstein referred to or this "god" thats like a root mathematical formula for all things. i certainly dont believe in the former and, yes, i think believing in that is on par in terms of lunacy as believing in some religion
