wes anderson making believable characters? the only thing i can think of watching an anderson movie is that those characters are so artificially, carefully contrived cool and quirky they were created from a handbook. Gwenneth Paltrow from the Royal Tanenbaums is a perfect example. For the record, i don't like the Zach Braff films myself.

you're right, this isn't hipinion because over there it's not completely pointless to actually engage in any kind of discussion or debate

continue your circle jerk

i didn't say they were necessarily believable
i said he has the talent to make the films engaging and hit on an emotional level regardless of how cartoonish the characters have gotten in his last two films

I was under the impression that the super cool indie kids liked Garden State.

Hated it, myself.

and at least while watching the royal tenenbaums the actions the characters take make sense . pretty much every character trait they have is properly established. i mean obviously her finger didn't need to be cut off and the bb didnt need to be in his finger but i accept stuff like that in a better movie

i'm under the impression that people who automatically assume people dont like something because its too mainstream are wildly insecure

i've tried liking anderson's films - at first i thought i just hated the Wilson's after bottle rocket (i still don't like them, especially Owen). The i saw Rushmore and The Royal Tennenbaums - i don't know, i think i need some sort of sap in my movies, he's too dry even for me and i usually like that in characters. I think the one director who does a good balance of that is Alexander Payne but whatever.

Yes, I am part of a huge, and evergrowing subset of people that hate you and everything you stand for because you like mainstream cinema

I don't see where Anderson is dry except in his humor.
There's an undercurrent of sadness and an emotional payoff in all of his films.

i know fully well what you meant
pretty sure you and anyone who says something like "the super cool indie kids liked Garden State" spends way more time thinking about what's mainstream or indie cool and being defensive over your tastes than you seem to think i do

i thought Garden State was alright. it failed miserably at the serious parts but i thought there was some really funny stuff. and i like the Shins.

but I said they didn't like Garden State

why arent you paying attention to anything I say. And I said I didnt care that people that that movie was uncool, but I liked it anyway. IF you arent listening to me it's going to be very hard to have a conversation about something. Is that why you are here instead of at hipinion---is the conversation aspect a bit too complicated for you?
