When growing to sell, speed is important.
I think it’s just cause if you’re growing hydro it usually means it’s much more controlled. Usually indoor (although a friend, top botany student at his university, was growing some awesome hydro outdoor as well (using a koi pond – big setup) and that means else exposure to the elements and such.

The speed is quite dramatic. When you reach a certain stage you can see the difference daily.

I grew 4 plants in standard pot plant under high pressure sodium lights. They came out quite nice too.

I think ultimately it comes down to the care etc. Your growing medium will have an influence, but as long as your seeds are good and you look after your plant, watching out for potential problems and making sure your plant is constantly healthy, then the medium is largely irrelevant.

I prefer good quality outdoor stuff that's been grown in the sun to the dense, sticky, rip-your-head-off grown in a sock drawer shit

Marijuana isn't fun anymore once you've been chopping down 7ft trees and manicuring all the buds... not fun at all... snot rockets of crystals = sucks.

I do prefer (well obviously a good strain meant for the following conditions). High altitude, outdoor and organically grown.
