I agree. One thing that Americans are good at are mindlessly band wagoning en masse to an international scene that they're fairly ignorant about.

I couldn't have said it better myself. How many people do you really think gave a fuck about Olympic Hockey in this country in 1980 until the US played the Soviets? I'm sure people in South Carolina were just riddled with anxiety as the 1980 Winter Games approached.

we were also sort of involved in that cold war thingy with the guys we were never supposed to beat. it was the ultimate david vs. goliath scenario. I understand that the US's chances of winning the world cup are slim (I read 80-1), but these guys are professionals, and they are coming into the world cup ranked 5th or 6th in the world, right? I understand the point you're making, and you can compare the two sports seeing as how nobody really cares about either of them, but I think the scenarios are vastly different.

you are right cam. but you have to admit that America is the most bandwagon city. i remember growing up in Northern Illinois and not even knowing who the Bulls were. nobody gave a fuck about them. they were a distant fifth in Chicago behind the Cubs, Bears, Hawks, and White Sox. Then they got this Jordan guy and they got good. Even when they were first good, they were still an afterthought in Chicago. Then they go from empty arenas to a 361-game sellout streak.

this game was really frustrating to watch

mexico should have won 5-0 based on some of the opportunities they had.

Angola are fucking savages. It's too bad they didn't get the double yellow until so late in the game. I know every year it seems like everyone jumps on the African bandwagon, but this year's cast of African nations are terrible: Ivory Coast is totally overrated, Angola are fucking savages, Ghana are overrated and savages, and Togo are savages and a team in shambles. None of these nations are leaving Round 1. Togo probably has the best chance because their group is all mediocre teams, but they are not gonna do it.

Overestimated USA, underestimated Spain, let my hatred of Portugal interfere with maintaining objectivity as to who would win Group C. Other than that, pretty damn good picks.

I need Aussie draw or win, USA win, Italy win, Ukraine draw or win, France draw or win to nail all 16 picks.

that's simple with even the most cursory knowledge of international football though.

are you going to revise the predictions to reflect the actual group standings? a bunch of the matches whose results you predicted aren't happening...

I'm not revising them till the Quarters. Enough of my Round of 16 matche were accurate.

unfortunately, i have the scientifically impossible final of Argentina vs. Italy in my picks.
