man i have noooo rhythm whatsoever.

in the actual song the bells part is from :54 - 1:16, 2:24 - 2:46 and 4:12 - 4:20

i recorded the tambourine alone:

http://download.yousendit.com/BCDB42ADA29FFB86

the maracas alone(they almost sound kinda similar to bells maybe in the recording i thought):

http://download.yousendit.com/AE2B28FED2DB5B4E

and the maracas and the tambourine together:

http://download.yousendit.com/10819E555122716D

do what you want with those lee. i don't expect all three to be used but i figured the more options you had the better. if any adjustments need to be made or whatever let me know. i had fun recording and wouldn't mind doing a bit more.

i can re-record the zipper if you want a hifi-er version
so... what should i do? i dont know. maybe i should just do the beat as it is i the original and let all the extra percussion do the creative leg work. it would help keep things clean, i guess, but maybe also boring. should i do it roughly along the lines of that above clip? like just the same beat with that 2 kick, 2 snare thing

yeah, i like the way the clip sounded. i'd say mostly keep it basic, because what you've got down as basic is nice and tight and kind of bounces well with the music. i'd say maybe pick one ore two moments in the song to be more dramatic with if that makes any sense.

to make things a little less "boring" along the way, maybe just do a few small/sublte changes. like make about half of the single snare hits a littler more soft/quiet, so then you've got a little more complexity going in how you alternate between the harder and softer single snare hits (the "2-hit" snare parts/clusters sound good as they are i.m.o.)

thanks. i think it felt like i was pushing the high end of my vocal range there, so i was hoping it wasn't -too- ugly ( a little ugly is kind of what we're going for, right?)

This is good stuff!! The vocals are awesome, all of you, and Mariner's zipper track didn't make much sense until I put it into the song, then it all fell into place. I love the ending. I'm hoping I can get it to stand out in the song, it's very muffled - I'm cleaning things up as much as I can, but it's hard to say exactly how each bit will sound until I'm mixing everything together. Holly, the maracas do have that sleigh bell feel too, especially when you play them with the tambourine. How loud were you playing them?If you get time, would you be able to do a bit of the two together again, but play them really loud (but not too close to the mic or it'll distort)? They might come through that little bit clearer - if not don't worry about it

Keep em coming!

still hopin to record something, but as something else, I recomend trying to work this sound in here somehow. Maybe the outro.

Note, not Netphorian made, just stolen from somewhere. Funny, though.

sorry if you already answered this...but when is the deadline? cause i'm not sure if i could do anything until the 30th :erm. If it's too late it's okay. But i'd like to sing the word "me" on verse 3, if possible. And I want to shake a pill bottle wherever it is that you said we could make a bunch of random noises. or wherever a pill bottle shaking might sound good. Okay let me know. Thanks.

ok, here comes my e-bow-ish wank-fest post.

final product (mix it with your backing track around 0:17.5):
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3...829SCHBZ0FBPCO

if you don't like it, here are 3 separate tracks that make that thing above:

ebow1 (mix around 0:17.5):
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2...10EQC1FA0FU1S0

ebow2 (mix around 0:18):
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0...S2JVCFO4YKXDA1

ebow3(mix around 0:17.5):
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3...32FPLWQR4M8Z4Y

sample it, loop it, alter it as you please.

Well what I mean is, if you move back from the mic you can give the thing more oomph without worrying about overloading the microphone, and it might have a brighter + more jangly sound

The random noises are for wherever - I mean if you want to make a 'chk chk!' noise and just give it me to put anywhere, I can do that. It's not too late though, I think it'll be a few days until people have contributed the music anyway, so don't worry.

Jan I'm downloading your stuff now and I'll stick it into my rough mix to see how it sounds. Joeri, are you definitely out? Let me know in case anyone else is up for laying down some funk basslines

here you go lee.

the piano file i forget which bar i started at, whichever bar syncs up with the slowed down ending. it's one of the first few D-chord bars.

the synth file
all this file is is an intro and then silence and the solo. so the intro should sync up with the very beginning and then the solo should sync up with where the first solo goes.

also, and this goes for everyone, i was inspired to put the notes from YEAH by USHER in the intro. if anyone would like to record YEAAAUUUUGGHH!!!s for the intro, then i think it would make it the best intro possible.

i know that i didn't do this yesterday morning like i said that i would. i overslept. i will do it tomorrow morning though. i think this project should be wrapped up by the weekend maybe, eh? not to rush anyone...but some kind of deadline would be appropriate probably.

Well a deadline would be good in that sense, but at the same time I don't want to make people think 'oh well, I can't do it by then so I won't bother'

We're really, really lacking in vocal contributions here. I'm listening to a quick rough mix of most of what we've got, and it's sounding pretty damn good - but there are only 5 people doing vocals at the moment, and there are huge gaps. All we really need are for more people to do a line or 2 here and there, so I can build up a complete vocal track. Come on netphoria! Get drunk and do your best lounge singer impersonation.

Also Mariner, I hate to ask people to redo things but if you have the time or inclination, could you possibly have another go at the zipper track? It sounds like you recorded it really close to the mic (I have a mental image right here) so there's a lot of bass and distortion, and I can't really EQ a good tone out of it. I don't know how well it would sit in the final mix, that's all I'm worried about. If you could do it from a slightly bigger distance it should have more... uh, zip. If you like though

hey, lee, i bought a couple of condenser mics last week and they should be arriving tomorrow. so that's my excuse not to subject netphoria to the horrid sounds of my musical "talent". don't expect anything from me because i suck.

no problem. i did the zipper before i found a real mic, so i had to be really close for the earbuds to pick up anything. i'll do the zipper with the real mic as soon as i get a chance.

Anything you like man - it would be good if you'd pick a few lines that haven't been covered yet, but whatever you want. You can sing lines from different verses if you want, I thought people would want to trade lines anyway
