Your Parents and the Pumpkins

My dads a big classic rock guy. Likes things like Bob segar and the stones and eric clapton, he is also embarisingly a huge fan of rod stewart. He's probably heard me play every pumpkin album twelve times through in the house and has never commented on them once. One time I watched viephoria with my dad in the room and he started randomly imitating Billy during the I am one performance when he's all like "GIMME GIMME GIMMEE GIMMEE GET GET NOTHING" its pretty funny.

My mom is a big fan of Wound, With every light, Soma, tonight tonight and 33. She also really digs the "To love somebody" cover on tfe. She is great.

My mom and dad own every Pumpkins album and a number of singles (including TAFH). They also own both Vieuphoria and the Music Video collection DVDs.
They have also both been to see the Pumpkins and Zwan live.

It is hard to rebel when your parent's like the same music as you.......

Sometimes I think my dad is cooler than I am..........

my mom likes b0lly lots... thinks he's pretty darn talented, so anytime i put something on when she's visiting, she's more than happy to listen - especially if i have something 'new'

my dad was so-so about 'em, but as soon as i sent him adore, he was glued to their music... especially got into the older stuff... he is also responsible for getting me hooked on the cure as a child and i suppose i repaid the favor

... NEITHER has seen them live... i think they are getting too old for that kid stuff, lol

My mom dislikes them. In fact when we ride in my car and I play them she pitches a fit and always says corgan sounds like a dying cow.

However, when I still lived at home and played my blue heaven for her, she really liked it.

My parents think they are okay, my dad likes SD, and my mom likes the mellow stuff, she liked some Zwan too. She says that Billy reminds her of Tom Petty.

My mom likes SD. I popped it in one time while driving and she was really getting into it. She said it's good music to drive to. She also likes TFE. My dad's passed, I think he would've liked sp.

i make no apologies for setting a standard. SD is it. if others want to be cynical, i guess that just makes me an asshole for believing in it...appearently.

The one time I did this years ago, my dad walked in from work and he was all irritated for a while and finally said he didn't come home just to listen to all that angry shouting. And almost any time I mention playing some SP he talks about angry shouting.

when i first got into them (i was 14) my dad didn't want me listening to them... he thought their music was too depressing and was going to have an effect on my mental attitude. But he started to notice that the music was something i was into, and that it really just helped me relax through all those troubled teen years.

My mom LOVES Adore. I remember coming home one day, and she was cleaning the house while adore was being blasted on the stereo system. Imagine watching a 40 something year old woman scrubbing the floors to appels + oranjes, it was priceless. Whenever I'm around she wants me to play for martha on the piano, as well as MCIS.I also remember watching the 94 lost tapes on the vieuphoria dvd, Snail is playing, my mom walks in and says "god, he's got such a beautiful voice."

My dad would never listen to them, but one time we were in Chicago for new years and all watched Full Circle documentary and the next day my dad proceeded to recite the entire history of SP to my uncle for like 30 minutes.

My parents would do anything if i could meet Billy. We tried so hard to get to the last show. They did get me to 5/10/00 and we all waited outside for 8 hours to be up at the front.

Yeah the band was so friggin tight. I started crying when Billy sang: Let me die, For rock and roll. I got chills and all. It was insane.

My Dad bought SD when he was in Sam the Record Man and Disarm came on. He said it gave him a chill down the spine like so few other songs could. I don't think he was really that into the rest of the album. He likes particular songs by them (Tonight, Tonight) and a few others, I'm sure. He's just not very vocal about it. He really liked the Machina Acoustic Demos though. He likes music where there's just a guy with his guitar singing (a big fan of Dylan and Cohen).

I only let my mom listen to the lighter stuff of SP (Sweet, Sweet - Luna - The Last Song - MCIS - Cupid De Locke), 'cause she can't stand anything loud.

Overall I'd say they're pretty indifferent to the band. One time though, I was watching Viewphoria, and my Dad was watching Billy during the "I Am One" rant-a-long. He turned to me and said, "Billy's an acid nut, huh?"
