A month ago i was told by my insurance company that I needed a formal referral from my GP before i could see a specialist (or someone other than my GP) for Hormone Replacement Therapy. I visited my GP, had a brief appointment to request a referral and I even gave my Dr the name of a Trans friendly Gyno who is in my insurance plan.

A week later i got a call telling me I was referred to some other male Dr i'd never heard of. I called back and asked a second time for a referral to the Dr i'd originally requested. The nurse on the phone argued with me for 10 minutes. She didn't want to give me another referral. She gave me a bullshit story telling me that the Dr I had asked for probably wouldn't want to deal with my "odd request" anyway. I insisted again for the referral i'd originally asked for.

Today I was told that the Dr I'd asked to see has never received a referral from my Dr's office.



The Dr i want to see will give me an appointment. But I can't get any treatment covered by insurance until my Dr's office files a referral. WTF?

my advice is that you need to find a way to accept that you're not responsible for him and the consequences of his actions. I don't know how you do that. But it's not bad or wrong for you to feel like you owe him or that you are responsible for helping or taking care of him. You can still be his brother without sacrificing your life for him.

i don't know. maybe that's harsh. But it sounds like he has put himself in the situation he's in.
