Skipping Chinatown on a Nicholson binge would be kind of like heading to Belgium on a trip and deciding not to bother with their beer.

I really liked it for it's tonal qualities.

That's pretty much all i like movies for these days.

Tbqh I didn't understand what was really happening until after the movie ended and i read a synopsis. I went into this film completely blind on the recomendation from a friend.

The Shining and then Cuckoos Nest were the 2 that really set the marathons in action. Hard to top those 2.

Really appreciated the lack of dialogue and the girl who played the lead was astonishing.

funny, with me, after going through another cycle of art films, I've been back to really mainstream stuff like Kramer vs. Kramer and Albert Brooks's Defending Your Life (watching a bunch of Meryl Streep Films).

Watched The Discovery last night on Netflix. Entertaining and the type of low key scifi i like. but a total waste of Robert Redford. This was an obvious low budget project that they probably droped major cash on just for that casting. But the character could have been played by countless other actors. Rooney Mara is in it. At first i figured they must have paid big money for her. But the way hollywood works Jason Segal probably got four times her salary.

Tower: A-

I usually find true crime docos a bit morbid or tasteless but this was really beautiful. Brilliantly told, well paced, very human account of the events creatively presented in a way that had me transfixed from the outset. Watch it.

Split - 4/5

It made me really uncomfortable all the way through, and in a way, I kinda hate how it deals with some subjects. It was very unsettling to me.
James McAvoy is incredible in it, effortlessly bringing a real wide range of emotions. Anya Taylor-Joy is also really good, already loved her in The Witch.

There's some movies about hard circumstances that feel cheap or exploitative (i.e. you can practically hear the writers going "cmon you care about this 1 dimensional cardboard cutout of a lazy fake character b/c omg so poor, so abused, so hard!") but this movie put me right there, relentlessly, until there was no choice but to give in and experience it with the characters

Haven't seen something this emotionally powerful in a long long time

I rewatched Rogue One and I enjoyed it a lot more a second time. I still wouldn't say I was as amazed as a lot of people seemed to be and TFA is a much better film, but the beginning didn't seem as clumsy or confusing having already seen it once, and I was more willing to forgive some of the movie's oddities (the CGI characters e.g.) because of the great action sequences. I also found I was able to "get" the characters a little better this time. It all just happens so quick

Totally. I also love how focused and "small" the film feels. Like they chose the exact few moments to flesh out the characters, it is really well executed and nothing feels like extraneous info.

I also liked it a little better on the second go-round.
Wish they developed at least Jyn and Cassian a little better. I get these are the underdogs and less important people in the grand scheme of the universe, but that's no excuse to make them forgettable characters when you're making a film about them.

That's time that could have been dedicated to seeing anything else, guys.

It's not like I went back to KFC for a second go at the Double Down after the first one left me feeling an odd mix of repulsed and underwhelmed.

Was that the one that seemed to revolve almost entirely around Natalie Portman's abdominal muscles?

That is a great movie. Filmed before Tom Cruise decided he had to be running towards or away from something most of the time in every movie since.

I saw Get Out recently it was the best movie I've seen on a 4.5 million dollar budget since... oh I dunno I'll just throw out there Napolean Dynamite, and the second best I've seen all year. I thought Force Awakens was boss.
