I'm a huge DD fanboy, so... I dunno. They didn't put too much stuff on it I hadn't heard before [in concert or on boots], but again - I'm a fanboy, I don't really care.

i think these are all relatively good, like a 7.5/10 or more

xiu xiu - women as lovers
Religous Knives - it's after dark
blank dogs - on two sides
robert martin - long goodbye
scott tuma - not for nobody
elektronavn - Cosmic Continuum
boris - smile
the tallest man on earth - shallow grave
Prurient - And Still, wanting
ecstatic sunshine - way
no age - nouns
thao - we brave beestings and all
sun kil moon - april

not counting compilations. there were some good compilations of old shit this year

Any thoughts on the new Coldplay single "Violet Hill"?

Sounds rather dull and uninspired on first listen, maybe it'll grow on me.

Posted this here just for the sake of letting people know they have a new single out without the embarassement of making a thread about it. I'm quite sure there are a few fans of the band here.

Looking through some of the lists in this thread makes me realise how pityfully little new music I've actually bothered to listen to so far, and it's almost May.

What's weird is nearly all the albums I have bothered to check out I've liked to some extent or another. I guess there's benefits to being selective/lazy.

No one likes the new Neva Dinova? I'd say it's my favourite of the year so far.

so now that some time has passed to digest it, how does everyone like third?

i only just got around to listening to it, its the first portishead album ive listened to, and i dig it after a couple of listens. might check their older stuff now because of it.

their earlier stuff is more accessible i think. the new record kinda freaked me out. haven't listened to it since the leak.

these will def. make my top albums of the year:

Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull
Genghis Tron - Board Up The House
NIN - Ghosts
Disfear - Live The Storm
Torche - Meanderthal
Justin Broadrick + Jarboe - J2
Meshuggah - ObZen
Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

These are all pretty decent:

NIN - The Slip
This Will Destroy You - s/t
Dub Trio - Another Sound Is Dying
Nick Cave - Dig! Lazarus Dig!
Leviathan - Massive Conspiracy Against All Life

these are pretty dissapointing:

Melvins - Nude In Boots
Opeth - Watershed
Portishead - Third

my money is on the new Nachtmystium and Mastodon records being good contenders for the top spot though.

Why? - Alopecia is without a doubt my favourite record of the year so far. Probably will remain so.
Narrow Stairs - Pretty good IMO. Surprised at how much I like it, definetly a step up from Plans.
April - Fucking amazing. Took a few listens to really get into it, but it's become one of my favourite Kozelek releases.
Sloan- Parallel Play, just got into this band a few weeks ago but I'm really digging this release. They're playing here in a few weeks too I'm pretty pumped they seem like they would be a lot of fun live.
Red Album - Couldn't really get into it. Got about halfway through and got bored. I'll give it another chance eventually but I wasn't really impressed at all with what I heard.

That's about all I've heard from 2008 so far I think.

Of course I like it. Jake Bellows is one of my fav. song writers. I haven't really had time to absorb it, though.

I really like the new Black Francis EP Seven Fingers and the new Dandy Warhols.

i just finished the wedding present's album, its good. theres a lot of stuff that reminds me of early pumpkins in there. and their singer isnt a nasal fuck either.

ratatat's new album might be their best.

that bon iver album is weird, it sounds so much like phosphorescent and still i don't really like it. needs a few more spins.

for some reason i really enjoy "not for nobody" by scott tuma. apparently some ex-alt country guy but the music is mostly instrumental, acoustic, ambient and quite pretty i must say.

the tallest man on earth - shallow grave is a very solid folk / singer-songwriter album celluloid_love recommended to me. amazing swedish singer and catchy, too

i don't know what to think of neon neon. some catchy parts but overall sort of crappy. needs further listening.

the new portishead album is really not as great as i first thought and yes, it does sound dated. i sort of grew to hate the fuck buttons album too. don't ask me why. but the new prurient is superb!

i like rockin cherubs post because instead of just making a list of new albums, it also has a description of what they sound like. that way it doesnt matter if i agree or disagree, i just have some kind of guide for what to try.

so far this year i like the mars volta, sun kil moon, my morning jacket, weezer,

i think i hate vampire weekend.

d
