If he's serious about releasing the archives and wanted to do vinyl pressings, why don't he just use Bandcamp's new vinyl pressing financing. You can set up Kickstarter-like campaigns. Plus it will give you the digital with the vinyl purchase. There's already an SP Bandcamp, so seems like a pretty simple thing to do. The foundation is already there: the digital, the physical, the Kickstarter all on one platform.

Anyone have any insight on what his deal is with the Metro? Seems odd that he has totally sworn off (and made a point of answering direct questions about that venue in the negative) a venue that was so formative to his career without explanation.

He's written me back a few times before, but only usually when he has something snarky or bitchy to say. He never seems to respond positively to anything. Last time he was a dick, I pretty much called him out on it, but it doesn't stop him from reading my messages nor did he block me.
