I am one, pick up the motherfucking phone. Come on, loser. I know you're laying there watching cable. Hello? Maybe you're not home, maybe you're out looking for a job.

This is one of my favorite Pumpkins songs, and probably the one I'd most like to see live. I actually had a dream I saw it live, and it was mind-blowing.
I love the bass on Gish, and "I am One" is one of my favorite songs to play on bass. It's so freaking easy, but it's so much fun. There's something about it, man... And I love Billy's vocals... breathy and then intense and loud. Mmmm good stuff. |

skipgo is like a mom to me.
If I were to listen to all SP studio albums in their entirety, it'd start with I Am One. It's a mediocre song, and from then I wouldn't reach another mediocre song until I got to crying tree of mercury, some horsu later. thats pretty remarkable! |

SIVA i pronouce it like it's written... see-vah if billy's gonna mis-spell em, i'll mis-speak em i regret saying yesterday that this song is "samey" as iamone cause it's so much more refined the classic pumpkin soft/heavey contrast is written into the song not just copy/pasted into the structure the dual guitars ARE the song... A+ riff the lyrics are very poignant and crafted it really feels like billy knows about stuff that i can only sometimes catch a gimps his reality is psycedelic and facinating... I don't live - I inhale I don't give - I unveil shit do i wish i would have the courage to take drugs like he did and the last two "sections" is why billy is a GOD "Sprinkle all my kisses on your head, Stars full of wishes fill our beds " such sweet softness, what a romantic "Like a bomb that you can't see" what a tease you can hear the bells on his necklace dingling/ringing (real intimacy) and then the original "wanna go for a ride" tease "i just want to get there faster"... (I know it's comming, and i don't want to duck the volume this time, i want to jack it even louder) 3:41 slam in your face i just want to scream the chorus with him i just want to rip my own flesh off and stop being afread of death or anything be what ever it is he lives and gives, let the migthy SP consume me teach us, inhale and unveil.... the scary dark side to siva is when i hear him say i don't give - are you in pain i dont' live - are you there those lyrical implications with the rest of the song really frigthen me |

i pronounce it with a soft i - siva as in give-a
have always liked this song, the intro is so simple but really dig the two guitars really shows the classic pumpkins soft/loud dynamic that pretty much was their signature sound i really really really liked the live version from the 97 tour, all the extra guitar wankery and shit, really bad ass... one of my favorites to hear live and i wish they would bring it back on their current tour! |

This is one of those songs that I only REALLY appreciate now and then. I always love it, and I crank it up when it comes on, but there are some days where I'm just like, "Woah." Ya know? It's just so good.
This thread is making me love Gish even more. |

nice description t&t, i don't think I could say it any better than you did. This song showcases some of the best elements of the pumpkins; ass kicking rock, incredible guitar work, great lyrical content, beautiful spacey jams, excellent use of dynamics, it's all there. I'm especially fond of the live acoustic version on the Black Sessions.

"shee-vah". i say it that way, and i will never not say it that way.
"all this pain smothers me like a bomb you cannot see." edit: nevermind. the breakdown is amazing, and the very end leaves me shaking my head the way a dog shakes out after a bath. |

Gish is frequently underrated by fans. Fact is, it's probably #2 only to SD for ass-kickin' Pumpkins tunes. I find it sad that T&T has to remind everyone how great these tracks are. Gish is why I like the Pumpkins. someone borrowed me MCIS and I though it was trash. A month later, I heard Gish. I was *then* hooked. Maybe it's all about presentation, I dunno. Whatever. Fucking Monday all up in here.

this song is so dreamy and lovely, yet still has that powerful pumpkins sound. How many rock songs can be taken seriously after mentioning ice cream snow and balloons? NOT MANY. that's for sure.
this is another song where i have no idea what the fuck the title means in relation to the song... |

i used to hate darcy. could NOT stand her. For years, I just thought she was a bitch. Then i saw the band live for like, the third time or so (1996 i think it was), and she was really talkative. I was standing right in front of her and she looked incredible. The first few times I saw her she didn't pay attention to the crowd much, didn't say a word, and looked really plain. But that one night, she completely won me over, and I decided that I'd probably been misjudging her all along.

Darcy is was the Earth sign of TSP. She was the grounding force. Her contribution imo may not have been that apparent to the undiscerning soul. But imo, despite being a bit grouchy her energy was very important in centering the band and BC. Of course being a piscies he'll never admit it (which is one of their biggest problems and it's a shame). My bf is a piscies III too. and i have taurus rising which helps ground him nicely, but he still claims that he does everything ALL by himself and that he is superhuman just because he's THAT cool. lol. it's hilarous. it's so adorable though and he knows i know that he's full of it. so, imo, her contribution and influence on the band was essential for the sound of what we know and love as TSP of 'ol
