Default Game of thrones commiseration thread

For those of us who will inevitably have their spirits crushed by falling production standards, and standards generally, of this epic tv event.

Arya is still my favourite. Also...I can't believe the king slayer still wants his sister...gross.

If she was my sister I'd want her

I love how George RR Martin looks like a character from his own books.

I watched season 1, then the season 2 premier came on and I realized I didn't know who was who or what family they were with so gave up.

Lots of good boobage, though.

Yeah i dunno what Vix is on about... sure it was more or less just an hour of exposition but of course that's going to be how the season starts, as far as i'm concerned if you just put on an hour a week of Charles Dance spouting random dialogue in character as Tywin i'd watch the hell out of that.

best character so far this season is The Hound

"lots of people name their swords"

"Lots of cunts!"

also, they replaced Daario with Michael Huisman (from Treme). His character seems completely different.

Sandor Clegane and Jaime are the two best characters in the series imo.

haven't seen this show

working on the second book, tough sledding. there is way too much description of food. ffs

450 pages into a 900 page monolith and i can't even discern a general plot, it's just a lot of fucking about and lots of food and every now and again you get to catch up with jon snow who isn't doing anything, catelyn stark who isn't doing anything, bran is having board meetings etc etc and then it's tyrion and suddenly stuff is happening

i'm not sure if i'm going to finish or bother with the tv show. i do want to see the esteemable sean bean (why isn't it shon bon?) as ned stark doe

and of course mr. dinklidge

Just wait until Martin describes the food stock at The Wall with John. It's literally two pages of every fucking thing.

Forty sacks of onions, twenty seven wheels of cheese....

Trots, keep going. Book three is absolutely worth the pain of reading about high fantasy food.

I haven't seen the show yet, I don't want to have the faces of beautiful actors and actresses superimposed over my imagination. At least not until Martin finally finishes the series.

Clash of Kings was probably my favorite. Not so much Storm of Swords, for reasons I won't say (spoilers).

In fact, the more I liked any book in the series was inversely proportional to how much Daenerys appears in it. She gets the fucking worst writing.

Her chapters in the fifth book are essentially episodes of The Bachelorette. The endless food descriptions are much more entertaining.

well as long as we aren't treated to preggo sex with a 13 year old followed by a third trimester abortion

or was she 11, did i just mentally adjust her to 13 because i didn't want to stop reading for covering the book in vomit primarily because tyrion is just that compelling

oh and i really did love the ned stark tragedy of the first book, it was almost as if martin was meta-slaying archetypal fantasy fiction at the same time. ned symbolizes every single honorable knight of every dimestore fantasy book that was ever written

clash of kings doesn't seem to have the same narrative direction

it's like iron man 2 compared to iron man. you know it just sprawls all over the place with no real act structure and you're left going "what the fuck is supposed to be going on" sometime around hour #2, instead of being riveted to your chair about what happens next.

I just hate how fucking lame she is. EVERYTHING works out for her. Always. And Jorah Mormont's like "WOW U A QUEEN NOW," after 3 months when she becomes the greatest leader ever.

She's a shitty character with a shitty story. Really a black mark in an otherwise phenomenal epic.

Rhaella gives birth to her at Dragonstone, as Robert's Rebellion winds down, which ends 15 years before the first book.

Found it- she has her 14th name day when she's pregnant.

Nice job, Drogo.

To be clear - the premiere was great... But I have an uneasy feeling of impending doom about what is to come - it's going to take years to finish and it's like any big project. Or maybe I was just irreparably burned by Lost.

I tried reading the first book when I couldn't wait for series 4, but I preferred the tv series. And I read a lot of negative criticism about the later books so I decided to just wait and watch. I'm kinda lazy like that.

The crazy thing with Lost is how hard certain fans of that show will try to defend the way it ended. I loved Lost and I really liked a few episodes in the final season but holy shit did they fuck that show up and tarnish it's legacy.

We'll see. If time travel and alternate dimensions get introduced to explain that Tyrion is Jon Snow's father, then it'll be almost even.

Lost's legacy seems to be countless copy cat shows based on some kind of mystery. except the shows copying Lost never start out good. they go to shit right from the start.

it is amazing how well HBO has been able to handle translating Martin's books into a comprehensible TV series. If it had ended up on almost any other network it would have been a disaster
