I bought this on iTunes with a gift card that I got for Christmas. I came across it a few months ago when I was Googling something to do with John Cage. It's not related to John Cage other than the style, as far as I'm aware.

What's Next to the Moon is probably his weakest release IMO. It still has some good shit, but some of those AC/DC songs... well, there was only so much he could do, I suppose.

there are a couple good songs on that it's just sort of a footnote to his monumentally brilliant stuff like down colorful hill

his weakest release is tiny cities by far.

I have to disagree. Tiny Cities is better than What's Next to the Moon, Finally LP, Rock and Roll Singer, and Nights LP definitely.

It's good. I mean, I like them all. Kozelek is my favorite dude. But Finally LP sort of seems like a bunch of covers kind of thrown together. Tiny Cities is all covers, but it has coherent vision and captures a unique sound not quite repeated on his other albums.

to me it's an experiment gone wrong

if one is allowed to call a 10° change to his usual approach an experiment. the most kozelek-esque track on it (ocean breathes salty) is also clearly the best
