EPs are great if you can release often and use it as an opportunity to experiment with dif directions or whatever. if they're good then people will listen to them and the pitchforks of this world will write about them so you dont have to say or do outlandish things to get talked about . win win

BILLY being billy will probably release one half baked EP which no-one likes then a year later maybe release another which would be better than the previous one if not for one terrible and very obvious flaw before declaring that :

the market doesn't resonate with an EP style delivery system. i've released 2 EPs now and people close to me tell me that this is the greatest music i've ever done..which is saying something because, you know, and I wouldn't say this myself but I know people would.. i'm probably the greatest living musician. the artist part of me says yeah sure release EPs but, and you know this, I'm a very successful business person as well as an artist.. some would say The artist.. but I digress, it's not a system that works.. what works is the latest hair brained scheme I've come up with as what I believe people want because I'm not prepared to confront the real issue. The real issue being that my band is shit, my riffs are shit, my songs are shit and I can't sing for shit.

Machina: Poor song choice, obscure production - Billy’s response: FUN POP album
Zwan: Poor song choice, saccharine production - Billy’s response: AVANTE GARDE
TFE: No solid singles, obscure production - Billy’s response: BRING BACK SP!
Zeitgeist: Horrid vocal mixing - Billy’s response: ALBUM IS DEAD
TBK: Stylistically odd, slow release, bad vocal mix - Billy’s response - BRING BACK SP!
Oceania: Mediocre songs and performance - Billy’s response - ADHD RAWK album!
MTAE: Short, mixed song quality, bad lyrics - Billy’s response: ALBUM IS DEAD!
Ogilala: Good but lacked diversity - Billy’s response: BRING BACK SP! ALBUM IS DEAD!

In between and live, he’s written and recorded some great music. He’s just lost sight and diverged from his audience.
It will be interesting if Billy ever does the box sets he promised once the rights revert back to him.

For example, the full Teargarden + Oceania + extras remixed and reordered could be pretty interesting.

Same with a Zwan box set that has every song they ever did.

I would even be interested in a remixed/remastered Zeitgeist that makes it sound like a normal album.

One of the wonderful things about this new age of social media is that I get a very clear sense of what others are interested in as it pertains to my personal or public life. And one must avoid the Pavlovian response to speak to the greater interest at the detriment of those who truly are interested in artistic process (which time has shown is probably the least interesting detail to most). So here, over two screencaps, I have listed the songs collected for this newest solo album (named, but not yet revealed). Page 1 having the newer songs written plus those that are to be re-recorded, Page 2 has the cover songs I’d like to take a stab it (time permitting) and also those (the ones with ***) that I’m satisfied with; having cut the masters during my last trip to Nashville.
Now, I realize a list doesn’t do much if you haven’t heard the music, but it does show the work involved and that there will be new music coming soon in addition to the 8 @smashingpumpkins songs being mixed. And I’ve stated before, given that I’d like this solo album to be 16 songs (or a true double vinyl for collectors) I’m heavily leaning towards releasing 4 ep’s that would later be collected together; for it’s hard for me to imagine that 16 acoustic songs could be given a fair listen far past those of you reading this post. Which takes me back to my original thought in this, which is if you know many won’t hear-listen-or be particularly affected in this time-space, why bother(?) the answer is simple: It’s who I am (a writer/musician) and life’s greatest personal joy is to be who you are without reservation. And make no mistake, I am lucky as almost all my released work, given space and time, is being found, discovered, and celebrated where it deserves to be. And it is because of kind people like you, who actually read to the bottom of these posts, that such dissemination is possible. So if life is a long novel, I still have many, many chapters to write, and lost pages to pull up from the dust. Because when all is said and done, I do plan on leaving a full testament to what I saw and understood here, and I’m cool if that means only you and the aliens will understand. The rest, in God’s hands.

The rights to Mary Star of the Sea, TheFutureEmbrace, and Zeitgeist went back to Billy in 2014. He mentioned a few months ago he did not want to release those until the Machina reissue got completed. The label has zero interest in reissuing Machina, therefore, we will not see any reissues of Zwan, TFE, or Zeitgeist.

How pretentious. How long before Billy declares that he is actually the second coming of Christ?

Capo = "i've run out of ideas". Funnily enough I remember reading an interview in the 90's where he said he hated playing with a capo too.

pretty sure Of a Broken Heart is played with a capo. I can't think of a single SP1 song which uses one though

Two steps away from forming his own acoustic smashing pumpkins tribute band. YouTube videos of him on acoustic guitar, Jeff on ukulele and some random white guy with dreadlocks on a cajon. Awkward mashups of pumpkins songs and a faux-moving cover of the fresh prince of bel aire theme tune
