What test did Billy score the highest on in "music"?
I've never heard of any standardized test that schools use to test children in "music"? Does the state of Illinois test children in the arts? Please advise.
Is this a truth? Or a version of a truth? |

I've wondered this ever since it aired. From third grade till I was in my third year of college I was involved in some form of music education and not once had any form of standardized test.

someone ask their parents what US schools did in the 1970s... how it works was in my case: - instrumental part: you play, one piece you prepared, one they give you without warning, so you read the music from the sheets and play right away with no prep time - singing: they sing, you try to match it from hearing - hearing intervals: you get to hear like 2 dozen, all of them 3 times, and pick which is what, a third, fifth etc. - rhythm: done with clapping mostly, same as singing - you hear it, try to clap the same rhythm right after. and then you get a short part and finish/continue it on your own, all of that for maybe a dozen different rhythms once you are older and have a bit of training and theory you get more, like continuing a short written piece on your own in musical notation etc. for a general test the only thing I heard about is from parents of elementary schoolers (in IL): that is just the clapping and a tiny pit of hearing part, in other words, does your kid totally suck with rhythm and can't tell which tone is higher. but all of them had that only because they wanted their kid to have extra classes in music, so they get this "test" before they are allowed to take the classes. |

i took that rhythm test in like 6 grade and failed. so i wasn't allowed to play the drums in music class. i had to play the trombone instead. it scarred me and ruined my life. true story. maybe this is the test BilliamPC had to take.

i tried trumpet and couldn't buzz, did perfect at flute but my sister plays flute and they didn't want to encourage sibling rivalry. i did moderately-well on rhythm exercises and that is where they stuck me
