Like pop music makes a form of poetry relevant to the ordinary person's life and I find that amazing

Kevin Shields, that is all
I know he owes a lot to Robin Guthrie, but Shield's style is on another dimensional plane to everyone else. Plus he's like an insane genius. |

like how could you listen to loveless and love it and then listen to zeitgeist and say ugh the drums are flat and billys vocals are mixed too high

there are like two layers of trash to weed through before you can even begin trying to untangle the mix of washed out and muddy guitars.
at best, it's the most lo-fi album anyone will hear. that album could have been made at kevin's house in two weeks and it would have been amazing to hell with some alleged 225,000 pounds it sounds like it was made on a cheap four track with the guitars bounced down a hundred times. |

slunken you and I seem to hear Loveless in completely different ways, it's especially strange since you've also read heavily into the recording of it.
Flying Saucer Attack, now that's lo-fi shoegaze. Far too much for my tastes though, I don't listen to it that often. |

loveless is hardly lo-fi, unorthodoxly mixed maybe but if you want lo-fi listen to their earliest stuff maybe

just listened to loveless for the gazillionth time a few days ago.
those melodies are timeless. and each song has a special guitar sound, sooo trippy. mbv and isn't anything are cool but loveless is magnificent. what a flawless album. |

my point was that for all the money and time that was poured into the making of it i'm not hearing anything that justifies either tbch. that band just never floored me though like i mentioned i love reading about the guys process.

i think loveless is great and the process to be hilarious, if anyone thinks that he wasn't fucking around wasting time and money because he had no idea what he was doing they're crazy

I really like guitarists who are more interested in textures and timbres, like Graham Coxon, Johnny Greenwood, Ronald Jones, Jonathon Donahue, Kevin Shields, etc.

If you don't like the production on loveless you'll never enjoy it, the production is what makes it what it is. I think it's genius. The last two minutes of To Here Knows When is perfection.

I'm with Slunken. Loveless is pretty cool. But I fail to hear why people make it out to be such a masterpiece. I mean, I'd take an album like Slouvaki over it any day.

this song came on today on my Pandora stations
there's just this magical quality to this, it reminds me of being 17 in lazy summer months you can really drift away while listening to this http://youtu.be/OrMjc4oz0mY?t=23m9s |

I checked out Slouvaki as my second Shoegaze album after Loveless but man it's so much more dull I was disappointed
That's been my experience for practically every shoegaze album after Loveless |

When the sun hits is probably my favorite song by any shoegaze band. But yeah the record as a whole disappoints.

To be honest i cant name one shoegaze record i like all the way through. I feel shoegaze as a genre was mainly a lot of unfulfilled potential. Bunch of lazy mopey fucks. Figures.

Someone might get really angry at this. Hopefully they'll realise I said it which means it isn't worth anything.

Yeah, I was just listening to Loveless again after talking about it and man... I dunno, it really does sound kinda lazy... Not very good songwriting... Melodies are also sorta meh. It's a cool approach though, but hard to understand it's legendary status.

I realize shoe-gaze is more about the vibe that it creates... but a lot of the Loveless songs just don't go anywhere.

You just gave the album additional cred by disliking it
