They're not common anymore, are they. There must be some good places left like that in Israel? Everyone wants to be a doctor or lawyer these days, nobody wants to own an eatery.

I actually day dream about opening one, sometimes. I had this idea that everything could be sold by weight. So everything would have a price/kg and that way, if you had $5 but wanted a bit of salad, a bit of quiche and a bit of cake for lunch, you could ask for $2 worth of this, or $1 worth of that and get a small plate with a bit of variety that wouldn't leave you feeling like you just at a Christmas dinner.

And, you know. Bookshelves and chess sets.

Singapore seems to have a lot of places like that. Our local chicken rice kitchen is staffed day after day by the same women. My husband goes there for lunch whenever he works from home, and we often get dinner from there. He went in there for lunch the first time and asked for a Set D. They didn't understand, and he ended up saying D for Donkey, which they found funny, so now every time he comes in, they ask him if he wants Set Donkey and I don't know if he even wants it any more but he just smiles and says yes. Those are the sort of unspoken rules at these places I think.

everything good comes to America first, doesn't it. It is the #1 first choice destinations for anything that is good.

I go to the closest supermarket, the staple of the NJ/NY area: Shoprite/Gristedes. It's the cheapest without going out of my way. Too lazy to go out of my way now. Sometimes I go to Wegmans when feeling fancy. That's a couple steps up from shopwrong. Whole food is way up there.

A cafe with local ingredients used. And then the scraps are given to pigs, which are eventually eaten
