Default new source for 1997-01-29?

I found this file on the hub tonight. I believe it originally comes from Zomb.

here is the .txt
Quote:
SMASHING PUMPKINS
January 29, 1997
Bryce Jordan Center
State College, PA, USA

Source: unknown audience audio
Lineage: DAT (x) > CDR (x) > WAV [EAC Secure Mode] > FLAC [8]
Time: 126:56
Quality: 7.5/10

disc one:
1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
2. Tonight, Tonight
3. Cherub Rock
4. Where Boys Fear to Tread
5. Rhinoceros
6. Rocket
7. Zero
8. Fuck You (An Ode to No One)
9. Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
10. lots of banter > 1979
11. Thirty-Three
12. Bullet With Butterfly Wings
13. Muzzle

disc two:
1. Disarm
2. Thru the Eyes of Ruby
3. Drown > Hummer [tease]
4. Siva > Spiders [tease]
5. Silverfuck > The Aeroplane Flies High [clips] > Space Jam

Note: Another incredible show. I'm not sure if this is the same source as is listed in SPLRA,
since this is almost 20 minutes shorter than that recording, but I don't have the time to check.
The lineage of this may very well be missing something, but for now, I'm sticking with what was told to me-DAT (x) > CDR (x).
As for the show itself, it's nice to hear "Rocket" in the setlist, and "Silverfuck" is scary intense.
Highly recommended.
versus Andrew's transfer:

I believe it was uploaded by the same person who uploaded the master transfers of 1995-10-19 and 1994-03-23.

I am downloading TTEOR (one of the track on which Andrew's source has dropouts) now to check.

Having downloaded TTEOR from the mystery source, I've concluded its legit:

1. There are no dropouts on the mystery source. The Fogelsong transfer has two short drops during the "Youth Is Wasted" section
2. Just after the song ends, you hear someone say something close to the mic (possibly "well, that's it") on the mystery source. This does not occur on the Fogelson gtransfer.

other stuff recently located:
master tapes to 1994-08-28 and 1996-12-01 (both SS>D6, hopefully will see the light of day)
master DAT to 1994-07-22 (MK4>RBox>D10*, unsure if this will get released)

* does anyone know when MK4s and D10s came out? this seems early to me (especially as the D8 wasn't released until 1996...)

That was me. I have no idea if it's a new source or not...I traded for it and lo and behold it wasn't as nice a recording as I was hoping. It hadn't ever been upped to ZOMB so I thought I'd put it up there.

If anyone wants me to up 3/23/94 and 10/19/95 I have them both on my computer ripped in EAC secure. It wouldn't be a problem at all to put them up on DIME.

How did you come to the conclusion that this could be a 32k DAT?

btw, i found a new source for 2000-10-20 (Flanders Expo, Gent, BE). it doesn't sound as good as the incomplete recording, but besides about 30 seconds missing near the end of heavy metal machine (possibly minidisc change?), it is complete.

i found it in a music store, so i have no source info at all.

Can you upload it to the LMA?

yes, i can do that.

is it possible to update source info afterwards? maybe some people can look into the tracks and easily decide that it was recorded onto minidisc, for example.

i'm thinking a high speed cassette dub?

or heavy old style lossy compression, as you suggested mp3 with low pass or old atrac. but i doubt atrac would have such a huge cut of range.

high speed dub cassette would be my first guess.

It cuts almost exactly at 16khz. The stuff near it just really faint....probably unlikely though, other tracks look worse.

the weird noises during the last tracks of disc 2 were likely caused by a bad cd rip.
i recently downloaded a torrent on ttd.org that got pulled because of similar noises during the last tracks. according to some people on there, these noises are typically caused by a bad cd rip.

unfortunately this noise is also present on the cd-rs i have. (of course it is. i would never make a bad cd rip.)

btw, is there any professional spectral analyst that can easily determine the source of this source?
