Any idea why SP weren't mentioned in Dave Grohls' Sonic Highways documentary?

The first episode focused on Chicago and mentioned a bunch of formative Chicago bands but made no mention of SP. It struck me as especially odd since Butch Vig is featured heavily in the doc and is producing this Foo Fighters album. I mean, I wasn't expecting like in-depth interviews, but they even made a little 20 second montage of Wilco when they were talking about all the bands. I'm thinking that it had to be one of these reasons:

-Dave Grohl hates Billy Corgan
-Billy Corgan hates Dave Grohl
-Billy Corgan views the doc as promotional material for the new Foo Fighters album and doesn't want any part
-Dave Grohl and/or the editors genuinely don't think Smashing Pumpkins are a noteworthy Chicago band.

Foo Fighters probably wouldn't be in any SP TV shows. Who cares though.

There's a whole lot more to the history of Chicago music than SP (and Wilco for that matter, though you wouldn't know it by reading Chicago media...asides from the obligatory 'Muddy Waters' they always throw in on their lists).

i don't think it's anything personal.. SP just never got the cultural recognition it deserved. they get glossed over in these type of things a lot

What? I thought the plastic surgery thing you mentioned was a jab at Courtney (i.e. Courtney has had so much work done to look young that she looks like her daughter). I don't think Francis has had any work done.

I can kinda understand why Billy has had some kinda meltdown about his career because it really doesn't seem fair to me the way he is is portrayed or rather not portrayed relative to the heights of his career
At the same time maybe he should be proud because being canonized in rock is pretty gay

SP still gets a substantial amount of recognition from media. SD and MCIS are always on those damn top-whatever lists and anything he does still makes it to the news. Fair or not, for many, Kurt and Nirvana were the face of rock music in the 90s and everyone else is relegated to a footnote. I rarely hear or read anything on any of those other alternative or grunge bands.

well she's like 20 now. and has unlimited financial resources so
... though i know what you mean. anytime i see a 20 yr old with tribal sleeves i'm like, really?

she's had some work done but i think a lot of her change in appearance was due to weight loss. ironically she looked more like her dad before, if that's really what she's going for

rarely read or hear anything about pearl jam, soundgarden, radiohead (they were some kind of "grunge" at one point, and def alternative), or well, the smashing pumpkins? i'd say they have a lot more getting written and said about them these days being that, you know, they're all still active bands and whatnot

Dave dated Melissa auf der Maur. During the resume the pose tour. I was at the MTV in studio in 2000. Dave didn't interact much w/Bolly - kind of kept his distance from him. . . he was a nice guy, interacted with everyone there back stage, cept Mr. Bill.
