While there's no shortage of great SP music, personally I was hoping James returning might mean a more recognizable SP even they didn't make the next Siamese Dream. If they want stop SP then that is fine, but if they're going to continue it would be nice to hear some traces of the classic sound at least in some songs.

There's valid criticisms of the band and Billy hereabouts

But there's also people who do bitch for the sake of bitching or because it's what they feel like this place is for or because they have a personal dislike of Billy

The latter does get tiring

Cyr and Colour Of Love aren't doing much for me, but all I'll say is I share the concerns that James and Jimmy might not be fulfilling the roles we wish they were. But obviously they're here on their own terms, so whatever.

Bill said in one of his Q&A's a while ago something to the effect of...what was it, people who loved him or were loyal or whatever might change their minds after the next one.

Getting most of the original band back and then doing a record that sounds nothing like what people wish they'd sound like certainly would do that.

On the one hand it's not exactly what I'm hoping for out of them, but this band's been more or less adapting current musical climates in its own way since the outset. Gothy tunes in the late 80s, alt-rock in the early-mid 90s (difference is they REALLY put their own stamp on it), electronic/nu-metal in the late 90s-00s (No, Machina wasn't nu-metal, but I always felt like it was their answer to what was happening around them). So them going for something like Drab Majesty or whatever people are listening to now doesn't surprise me all that much.

Honestly nothing surprises me with this band anymore, so I guess any criticism I read seems monotone. You want more guitars? It’s like adore fan reactions all over again.

Last time the band surprised me is when James iha showed up on stage. My point a view the last 4 years have been a major improvement over the 4 years previous to that.

Maybe I'm basic but yeah I want to hear SP play some guitars. I can respect Adore for what it is but it will never be my favorite and I would never listen to if it wasn't the same band that made SD, Pisces, and MCIS. The moment Billy said he'd thought he'd done everything he could do on a guitar was truly a sad moment.

I’d expect this board hasn’t been happy with a SP record since TAFH (or MCIS if you’re limiting it to official studio albums). I was also 4 years old when TAFH was released so idk. I don’t think they ever properly followed up MCIS tbqh. IMO they got better with each studio album from Gish to MCIS, but MCIS was clearly the band peaking as a unit and once Jimmy OD’ed everything was changed. I think they probably had another legendary album in them if Jimmy hadn’t ODed and Jonathan hadn’t died which I personally think started D’Arcy’s mental collapse. We’ll never know, sadly. Adore is definitely a good album, though, don’t get me wrong.

MCIS was almost too big/grand for them to handle and I’ve always seen adore as the reaction to that.

Why I’m interested in this album.. it’s the first time since Mellon collie where billy/the band isn’t having it’s so called first comeback album.

Think about that— adore, first album without jimmy. Machina- Jimmy’s back bitch Darcy’s gone, so it’s sort of the jimmy comeback album. Then zwan, Mary star debut, then they break up. TFE is Billy’s first solo thing, but then SP is coming back! Hence zeitgeist. Then just as that band seems to be getting a good footing, jimmy leaves and a whole new band is started. Oceania, the new SP! Oops didn’t work out but Billy’s got the Motley Crue guy.. time to give up. Yay James and jimmy are back! Here’s our first EP in 20 years as a band, now we tour tour tour.

So whatever this record will be, it’ll be a culmination of the past two years work. I think what we’ve heard so far is a blip on the radar. I’m optimistic.
