You could have taken out Quiet and gone from Cherub Rock straight into Today. A one-two punch (god, I hate that expression) of hit singles frontloading the album, then you're already in the more substantial middle part. Quiet does the second track thing so well that it wouldn't sound right anywhere else. If you replaced it with HKK, it doesn't have to go in the same spot. I think between Geek and Mayonaise could have worked well. |

Cherub Rock into Today would feel rushed.

You'd think misspelling it four times in one post would of clued him onto it but no.
Probably an anglo-saxon. |

disarm is actually an amazing song but it's been overplayed. if it hadn't been a single it'd be a fan favorite. imo. as far as strength as a pure emotional songwriting exercise (for lack of a better term), it's up there with tonight tonight. it gets across complex emotions way out of the ability of most songwriters.

Agreed. Plus I'm not a big fan of the production on the album. If it was more like the live 94 versions, with clean electric, Iha's leads, and live drums, it'd be great. (Like I'm all for lush, dreamy songs, but the live version is just so much better to me)

That's an interesting thought. Mayonaise could have been a hit single,at least as popular as Cherub Rock. Now I'm glad it's not, otherwise I might have that same feeling of overexposure like I have with most of their singles.

I think that's tied with MCIS->Tonite->Jelly
both are fucking incredible triplets that show off the band's musical range I would also like to say that a set of (Hummer, Rocket) would show up in that but Today and Disarm are such sleepers (/singles) at this point |

I think it's great. It kind of foreshadows the harder, more angsty tracks that would be on MCIS, while still having that Siamese density and gloss. Simple but pulse-pounding riff. The lyrics have some strong imagery ("silent metal mercies castrate boys to the bone," and the solo is melodic yet urgent. I think that Corgan just has shitty taste in SP music. He's probably right about needing additional pairs of ears (like Wretzky's) to keep him on track, because he can't properly assess the value of his own work. Being surrounded by yes-people is likely a large part of the reason why post-reunion SP music has gone downhill. |

Behind me, the grace of falling snow // covers up everything you know is one of his prettiest lyrics, sung over one of his heaviest riffs
