I never meet anyone who is into the pumpkins let alone in a hardcore way. I'm a PJ superfan (been to almost 100 shows) and people know them of course and all the 90s grunge bands but TSP no one knows them which is ridiculous because the peak they reached in 96 is insane. Even I think 00 is an incredible tour but still. They are so dead, maybe because of b0lly and his mouth.

"It was 1997 and I was choosing my AOL “screen name”. It was between MonteLDS or MonteSP at the time. I had thought to myself, well I might not always be a Smashing Pumpkin fan but I will always be LDS. Little did I know that I would also always be a Smashing Pumpkin fan."

I think it was a mix of Zeitgeist being a disappointment and Billy being a prick.

SP fans used to be like fans of many other bands. Over time the quality has dropped so much and Corgan has become so irredeemably vile that the only ones that can really call themselves superfans today are more likely to have some developmental disorder.

I think being a superfan of anything is kinda weird.

But a fan in general? Meh. I tell someone I like SP. No one cares. I tell someone I like Pearl Jam. Still no one cares.

Billy is hyper-rational in a way that resembles autism. He has a way of being incredibly articulate and well founded in his speech while completely missing the fact that he’s being a horrible person and making everyone around him want to vomit. That’s also kind of how autistic people roll. They are wired to screen out social reality and make everything into cold, mechanical data. So it makes sense they think he’s great.

In Billy’s case though it’s his narcissistic traits that make him so cold and rational. And that creates a creepy symbiotic relationship between Billy and his fans where Billy gets his need for adulation met by his autistic fans, and the fans get to feel like they belong somewhere and someone understands them.

Hence, Monte.

The Smashing Pumpkins are an oldies act now, once you accept it and harbour no hopes for the future, it gets much easier.

Hearing anyone who'd seen them in 2007-08 was basically the same rap: "It was kind of disappointing. At least they played 'Today' "

So yeah, it might not have been Zeitgeist itself, but the whirlwind of bullshit shortly after certainly sealed the deal

As for this thread: lol

It's possible BC is high functioning Sperg. Would make sense about his obsession with songwriting and music. They usually have one super focused interest that they put everything into.

Yeah there’s just not enough compelling evidence in his analysis to sway me. I’m all for reading threads but let’s not go crazy and just make things up. Stick to facts. Anyway, I just want to reiterate that I like reading threads. I hope there’s more later. See you guys later.
