first part is cool but come on, the outro "as she counted the spiders..." and then the little solo with that sick jimmy beat... I swoon again.

glass and the ghost children is the ultimate example of BC ruining a song in the studio
AOI is pretty tight though, another one I don't like the production on however (would've been better in an acoustic arrangement imo), never did enjoy this time |

it's not terrible, it's just mediocre compared to the live versions. feels forced, not enough ideas for the runtime. I do dig the piano during the first section a whole lot

Huh, in the run-up to the Machina release I remember absolutely dreading GATGC on the album because I thought the live performances were so boring, and then I was blown away by how much I liked the studio version. Seemed so much more dynamic and energetic... what's your favorite pre-release live version (preferably something I can find on archive.org or youtube or somethin')? I need to take another listen.

I don't really care for the Arising versions of it, it was executed better after the album came out imo
couple of versions I like: 2000-02-19 (acoustic, just billy and james. blissed and gone tease during the outro) https://archive.org/details/tsp2000-...upgrade.flac16 2000-05-23 (electric, same as album version) https://archive.org/details/tsp2000-05-23.flac16 2000-11-29 (half acoustic version, achieves the grandiosity that I think BC was going for with this song) https://archive.org/details/tsp2000-11-29.shn |

Thanks errbody; I'll check those four out.
On another note, I've never been able to reconcile how much I want to hate the line "and she counted the spiders as they crawled up inside her" with how much I enjoy it. I look at that lyric, typed out, and I kind of cringe. I hear it in the song and I'm like "fuck yeah, that's awesome." |

For real though, Machina II is some amazing god-tier stuff IMO and Slow Dawn is one of the best tracks the Pumpkins have ever made. Songs like Vanity, Saturnine, Dross, In My Body are just so atmospheric and shoegaze-y. I hope they release a remaster and play some tracks live, especially Slow Dawn. |

Most of the Machina II stuff sounds like it was recorded with the band at one end of a hallway and the mics at the other. I'm sure that is what Billy was going for but to me it sounds B-side-ish and unfinished.
Slow Dawn and Dross are great songs -- I'd just like to hear them remastered. |
