Default Drake just put out his "808s and Heartbreak"

A couple of weeks ago he released a new album called "If You're Reading This It's Too Late." It's pretty amazing. Very dark and introspective at times. Lot of cloud rap and downtempo influences. My favorite tracks are probably Madonna and Now and Forever.

i have no idea how this is his "808s & Heartbreak" though, wouldn't that have just been his first two albums or something

this is pretty clearly his most aggressive thing yet, less singing than before if anything. and only a coupla songs really ruminating about the "classic drake tropes" and whatnot

Srsly that's a silly comparison tho CW. Can't it just be "drake made a new album"? Like why does everything have to be "Definitely Maybe is to Phish what Sgt Peppers is to Marilyn Manson"?

Does Catherine compare unlike things at this point because he's always done like his calling card or does he not understand how comparisons work

The Kanye comparison is fair. Like 808s this is a darker different more reflective album than his previous work. 808s was a whole new sound for Kanye just like this is a whole new style for Drake. And plus people already compare Kanye to Drake all the time.

I just don't hear what's amazing about this album - at all.
Was exposed to it thanks to a co-worker, so I heard it 3 times, front to back.
It's boring me to tears.

Madonna is a total departure from what he's known for. It's got a trip hop feel to it but also with the snare that you hear in trap rap. and the hook is totally unconventional sounding.

A lot of people don't realize that Drake was actually a teenage star for several years in a super popular Canadian sitcom-drama.

So that "started from the bottom now we're here" stuff is a little preposterous.

Nearly as many people realize this as they do that drake's a rapper, why does everyone who makes this statement act like the first man on the fucking moon, lol

well Trotsky mentioned that he was truly just an uperclass suburban kid, but the truth was actually a little more shocking than that as he was actually a very popular actor before any of his music career started. Of course his celebrity was probably what lead him into the music role as it were.

I think you might be overstating his importance in Degrassi here. Sure, he was shot and put in a wheelchair, but Jimmy Brookes was pretty minor compared to the likes of....idk, the mighty Spinner, Manny, Craig, hell even Jay. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time! A good kid!

I never watched the show, but I remember seeing Drake in all of the promos on Much Music. If he was a "minor" character; they sure put a lot of attention into him for the promos for years.

Not to take away from the mans music at all, but lets face it... Drake isn't exactly some sort of inspirational music success story built from the bottom up. The guy was already a huge T.V. celebrity for fucks sakes. It's always easy for a TV star to cross over into music... Just look at Taylor Momsen... Same sorta story.

i think the degrassi stuff is funny but the fronting about being from the bottom and how fame is all strange to him even though he was on tv and most primarily the fact that i think he SUCKS is all why i don't like drake

of course at this point i'm wondering if childish gambino is he worst thing in hip hop and i should give drake a pass for at least not being as shitty as donald glover

Ive only heard Donald Glovers R&B stuff and I wasn't too impressed by it. It's not a good sign that he's doing songs with Will Smiths son on his latest EP.

He and Drake are the kings of this middle class average guy rapper stuff that's so popular now.
