Default Can we do a "Best 3-5 shows from each tour" list?

I'm talking just pre-gish/Gish-Machina. Just like a definitive list, because I always just give up and listen to Vancouver '97.

Gish:

1992/01/20 Amsterdam - bombastic drums, great energy, corgan strung out on mushrooms i think

1991/12/31 Metro - new year's eve, guitar smashing at end

1992/07/23 Metro - acoustic, beautiful obscured, electric starla at end

SD:

1994/05/23 Pinkpop - brilliant, fast, high energy festival set. full JC drum cam, amazing hummer, geek, silverfuck, disarm

1994/04/17 Buffalo - amazing show, band in great mood, like 10 encores, bury me, starla, rhino, etc

1993/12/11 Cincinnati - band in great mood, last show before a break. tristessa, pissant, fun show.

MCIS:

1996/05/15 Brixton - beautiful beyond words. pajama set, ruby>porcelina>bodies. long silverfuck. 3 hours of peak MCIS bliss.

1995/02/28 Double Door - last of the little residency, longest recording we have iirc. great early MCIS songs -- towers of rabble, meladori, god, speed, jelly, muzzle

1996/01/26 Rio - super high energy festival set, MTV proshot. band is super excited. SD runthrough of rocket which is unreal. crazy XYU with the soccer balls

1996/04/07 Dusseldorf - everyone knows this one

Peak awesomeness of the Zeitgeist era *Set The Ray To Jerry (PA, USA), 21-10-2007*

Love the extended outro. BC/JC are unstoppable when they get locked in and have that chemistry firing on all cylinders

Thanks! Those early Zwan shows are so fucking sick. Really wish there were soundboards. However, 12/14/01 early show was my 17th birthday. BC sang happy birthday to me. What a night that was. Glad that boot exists.

I mean...I have no interest in this. I saw em a few times during this era. Don't get me wrong, when they were on, they were ON. But, it's just not it.

Since most of the well-known shows will get covered, I offer the below list of deeper cuts. One per year.
Apart from Unicorn 1992 and the 1999 and 2000 shows, most of the below get zero attention.

1990/09/13 Cincinnati: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1990-09-13.flac16
If listening to the band's live shows from the beginning, I would skip everything before this show. They've dropped the earlier/weaker songs from when they were still trying to figure out their sound, and they introduce new ones like Suffer and Siva. Great gig.

1991/06/22 Reckless Records: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXIaxN2SQ6U
Similar to to the Cincinnati show the year before, this record store electric performance introduces that next layer of sound, via Drown and Rocket, alongside the other rarities. Would love to hear what the Metro show later in the day sounded like.

1992/06/09 Milwaukee: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1992-06-09.flac16
The Metro show a few days before probably had all these new songs too, but this one is the earliest date from that week of shows. Just a damn cool setlist of new songs mixed with the Gish tunes. Would be nice to hear all of the shows from that week.

1993/11/21 Washington DC: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1993-11-21.ana1.SPC
There are many shows to choose from 1993-1994, but I always come back to this one for the best "overall" Siamese Dream show. Band in a good mood, playing is flawless, songs aren't too sped up yet. Corgan doing just enough sparring with the audience. Excellent.

1994/04/02 San Antonio: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1994-04-02.flac16
A good example of the band at peak MTV popularity, with the teenagers fully onboard and screaming. Outdoor show, great setlist.

1995/10/19 Peoria: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1995-10-19.flac16
Between the more famous Reading and Riviera shows, just before the album release. Opens with Porcelina and is the rare MCIS show to feature Hummer and end with Siva.

1996/05/20 Sydney: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1996-05-20.flac16
Lots of excellent MCIS shows to choose from. This one is after the excellent Club tour and Euro/UK tour. Horrible sounding recording, but is similar to the 11/21/93 show in that it is a really well played gig, with the band in great mood. Has the definitive "Long version" Silverfuck, complete with Corgan adding in the final set of ad-libs for the first time, just before the Filter section, and Jimmy taking that batshit crazy drumming in the extended outro to the next level.

1997/11/01 Fort Worth: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1997-11-01.flac16
Talk about a weird lineup: Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews, Smashing Pumpkins, Rolling Stones.
Worth hearing for the rarities and the snapshot in time. Can you imagine the audience at this show?

1998/06/30 San Francisco: https://archive.org/details/tsp1998-06-30.flac16
They played the entire Adore album within the same show for the first time. First charity gig. Recording has a great atmosphere to it, which fits with the music. Appels + Oranjes gets a solo treatment which is a nice listen.

1999/04/10 Detroit: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp1999-04-10.shn
The comeback show.

2000/11/29 United Center: http://www.archive.org/details/tsp2000-11-29.shn
The farewell before the farewell.

If Mike Byrne isn't on the drums, it's not the best show.

great list!

For 98, Atlanta is great but so is Aerial Theatre (https://archive.org/details/tsp1998-07-12.shn). A different jam to close out Transmission (instead of the scale) that sounds like an early version of the HMM riff.

2000s: Cat's Cradle 2-19-2000 (https://archive.org/details/tsp2000-02-19.flac16) is a weird show, shitty sound quality, but unique in that it's BC solo.

i think people need to specify if a show is worth checking out for the quality of the performance, or for the quality of the recording, or both.

i'm over listening to shitty audience recordings these days, even if it is an amazing performance or setlist.

I pared my collection down to this a while ago:

And then I also have a slightly modified version of the "Second Sight: Alternate Versions" collection someone here made many years ago.
