Blind Melon's "Soup"
Fantastic record. I can't believe this album didn't get more respect and sales in its day. It's a top tier album of the time IMO.
It's too bad about Hoon. The band really seemed to be growing in an awesome way. It's terrible that the culture has receded the bands importance to "being that No Rain band" |

in order to avoid invalidating all other forms of music, they'd only play covers of songs by other canadian artists (e.g. barenaked ladies, avril lavigne, the beatles)

I love soup, much better than their debut, I think
But Nico is their best. Actually, Unified Theory is their best, both albums are gorgeous |

It's like I'm stuck back in HS with that annoying kid who was year younger and would try to impress me by talking about the cool new bands he was into.

fuck that man. It's not my fault that none of these new bands can make music at the same level as the classic artists from the 90's, 80's, 70's etc.
I mean yeah, some of the electronica shit that's all of the rage nowadays is pretty cool. I even heard one of those new Robin songs come on at the grocery store I work at and was digging it. I just have a sweet spot and passion for guitar driven music though... And most of these new bands come off like talentless little fools. Last edited by fuzzyroes : 07-24-2014 at 09:02 AM. |

I hadn't seen any Blind Melon topics lately so I thought they might make for an interesting topic of discussion. Fuck, no need to get all bent out of shape about it. |

Yes there is a reason there have not been any Blind Melon topics lately. Or Econoline Crush topics...
God at least pull something that is moderately interesting out of your ass. Nope we don't get "Hey guys no one ever talks about Polvo." We get hey guys here are these shitty 90's major label bands that no one even really cared about when they were popular. |

90s stuff i've been listening to lately has been Jessamine and Unwound. Live Leaves would be a perfect live LP if No Tech wasn't on it.

it's robyn and she's with royksopp which is a norwedgian edm duo who she's worked with before. i haven't even listened to any of it yet and i already know more about it than you. do you see the disconnect? you speak with authority about "today's music" and then show how little you know about it, which is basically nothing. people haven't called it electronica since 1998 when is that going to sink in? |

Incorrect. They just don't get praised or recognised on the same level. Everyone has already made up their minds that certain artists are legends, that their greatness cannot be surpassed, that they can't be fucked with, and the idea of that status gets handed down to each generation of music listeners.

the problem with these new bands these days is that they just haven't been around as long as david bowie

I really liked 90's rock. But then you realize it was just an extension of 80's rock in a watered down form once you know a little more about music.
It's pretty hard for a new band to compete against 50+ years of great music |

Black Sabbath really doesn't do much for me now, but can you imagine how that shit must have sounded when you first heard it in 1970 or whenever? It would have knocked you right on your ass. Each decade from like the 50's to the 90's had it's rock icons and important influential bands who broke thru to enjoy success. What bands have made a cultural impact in the 2000's? Coldplay, fucking Kings of Leon? It's pathetic... truly pathetic. |
