i think 1979, TT and Muzzle are the best "songs" (in terms of writing)....not sure about best radio single. i love the BALLSOUT CONFIDENT ROCKIN IN YOUR FACE quality of tarantula...and i really love what BWBW captured in 1995, in terms of attitude in the mainstream.

then again all the SD singles seemed perfectly artistic and meaningful enough to be significant but also good radio songs...enough to be catchy and palatible. that former element is whats missing from GLOW i think. but it has the latter.

yea, i'm gonna go with BWBW. best radio single because it really captured the moment (the zeitgeist, if you will) as well as had an awesome attitude, sounded original/fresh, kickass music video, and perfect for the comeback (after the long mcis studio stint) positioning them at the top of the world (you fucking knew it from day 1, thx to that song) + the final catchiness radio-friendly element. perfect package for that time and place. '

Edit: wow...i apprently appear to be all abotu the mcis-era here. who woulda thunk it.

i agree with you rider. but have gotten buried in this same argument before. there's a legion of ppl out there who consider it a "single".

i say radio promo.

other debatable ones...untitled (i say single) and drown (i say radio promo).

The best song that made it to the radio is Tonight, Tonight but the best song for the radio was either Today or Bullet. I know 1979 was more popular at the time but now all these years later, Today and Bullet stand as the lasting imprints this band made on mainstream music.

Today...

Cuz it was in the vein of what was out there, but different.

It had a message, but everyone could interpret that message differently.

It had the lullaby intro, but fuckin' rocked out.

It showed technique, style, depth and the ability to anthem rock.

That would be "Why Today was the best radio single released by SP."

the most 'personal' radio single for me was 1979, since that was the year i was born it always has a special place in my heart.. and the video completely takes me back to high school every time I think of it.

I probably like Rocket best, but I think Tonight, Tonight is the best song released for the radio because it was so unique- it doesn't sound like anything else I've heard, was really a new sound with an awesome video but was still incredibly popular.

I love it when a band can do something really creative and hit the charts, and it really exemplifies the little unique soundscapes SP can create.

I'm gonna go with Ava Adore though 1979 should probably be picked.

Ava Adore is simply a perfect little modern pop song. Not a single note/line could be altered to improve it. It achieves at what it aims at. Sexy dancable beat, stylish lead-guitar bit, instant chorus, lyrics with attitude (whores & crooked teeth & lover in my bed / a gun to my head) + gothic without irritating the shit out of me
