Friday/Saturday drunk or otherwise thread

I've been on xanax legally since I was 14 so after 13 years it doesn't knock me out anymore. Just makes me a fuzzy oversharer. And hell no I'm not touching hard drugs. I'm not even smoking pot right now and have almost ALMOST quit cigs. Fucking hell to stop with this stress. Just one or two a day atm. But I'm too broke to buy any more so hopefully it's for real this time. I quit for 3 months just recently but alas I am weak.

RBG: I have gotten hammered and ridden a bike. And gone to the gym. Working out drunk was my jam in college. My sweat smelled like tequila. Why are all people so chemically dependent?

I hope my daughter is happier than I am. She's too young for me to know, she seems pissed most of the time though. But I think that's normal at this stage. RIght vixnix?

Yeah both of mine felt like aliens to me, until they were about 12 weeks old. It's hard to be so emotionally and physically available to a tiny demanding alien that gives absolutely nothing back eh. But at the same time, when you meet all their needs, you feel a sense of purpose and achievement that can't be replicated by anything else

Babies! Actually, have you seen that documentary? Babies? It's neat.

Oh yeah, that's true. But I still mark "white" on all those questionnaires. Are Jews not white? I suppose historically not but idk what else to put. I'm so pale I glow. Happy Rosh Hashanah everyone! XD

The conception of whiteness was invented to justify the enslavement and subjugation of non-Northwestern Europeans via colonialism and slavery. Whiteness is by definition a category of people who are privileged by their skin to be above that kind of oppression. The category has expanded over time to ******* groups who did not used to be white (Irish, Italians, Jews, etc.) as these groups have climbed the social ladder and achieved the privilege initially only granted to Anglos Saxons and such. So in that way Ashkenazim are absolutely white. But we're still better than other white people obviously, why else would we control the world?

Judaism is a religion.

Jews can be any race.

We just often conflate Judaism with Ashkenazi culture, even though there are plenty of Jews out there who have never played with a dreidel, never eaten Matzah balls, etc. It's not part of their cultures.

Even if we just focus on Ashkenazis, there are differences between culture, ethnicity, and race. There is a Celtic culture, but not a Celtic "race."

But seeing as races are arbitrary and only loosely at best map on to a hodgepodge of phenotypic variations that we've deemed socially significant, what counts as a "race" is fluid, and dependent on the historical and social context. The Irish were once a "race." Today, they're just people from one of the countries white people come from. I can see Ashkenazis being considered a race in historical times in some places, and not in others. Groups are "races" when they are trying treated like races.
