Yeah, I think if Billy had made a more guitar-driven rock album, I think the reception would have been better. But TFE is more like a full album of the darker, synth-heavy tracks on Adore. I like most of it but I don't think that's really what most fans wanted from Billy at the time.

i think writing good songs could help, becasue he tried everything by this point. in last 15 years we got the rocking album (zeitgeist), the psychedelic album (oceania), the sunshine pop album (zwan), the experimental album (all the synth noodles), the electronic pop album (TFE), the original pumpkins reunion album, even an intimate acoustic record. and it all fell flat. nothing will ever work when you have boring songs that barely even register with the fans. no arrangement change could fix that. its frustrating for me, i cant even imagine how billy must feel.

The Zwan album is ok. It's notable that all these album have had their dynamics crushed as well. The worst one being the new album.

i honestly think the new album is hurt by it the least though, because the songs at their core don't seem like they're even trying to be dynamic - unlike, say, Oceania or even The Zeit

That's just a justification after the fact. If its decided, for whatever reason, that a person likes the album, they will say the songs have a simple elegance, and that they're a return to straight forward rock. OTOH, if the songs were dynamic, and people still didn't want to like the album, they would say the songs were busy and inaccessible, that you could only love them if you were already a fan.

On a forum such as this, that's implied 100% of the time.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I wasn't even implying whether I liked or didn't like either of those 3 albums, just that 2 of them seemed like a more dynamic set of songs than the other one

You said the album was "hurt" by a lack of dynamics in the songs, I'm saying people can love or hate dynamics in music depending on the day of the week.

i said it was hurt by it the least
as in, whatever dynamic shifts might have been present in the songs from the start probably weren't too effected considering it doesn't seem like there were many

Well I wasn't wrong, opinion was and is peddled as fact. I'll concede that one need not put "IMHO" in their sigs because, a) theres not a humble person for miles, and 2) nothing posted here is researched enough to possibly be anything other than lowly opinion.

This just in: The Knights of Cydonia just gave The Knights of Malta a big atomic wedgie .

Knights of Cydonia is a hugely overrated song. Though its song structure is pretty unique.

Knights of Malta - I've listened to it about three times total and it's not nearly as bad as some here are making it. The gospel vocals are a nice touch.
