I see a people arguing online that the millions of acres of grazing land in the U.S. could be used to raise crops instead of animals. That's really not the case, unless humans can somehow evolve a stomach with the ability to digest grasses. Most of those lands have shitty soil that won't grow much of anything besides grasses, and/or they are full of boulders and sand which no farmer has the time or energy to deal with. Access to water is also another factor. Sure, animals need water to survive, but they can walk to a central water source. Crops need the water delivered to their roots, which isn't easy in some of the wilds of USA (W/SW USA specifically).

(I'm going to grill this chicken breast wrapped in bacon while I wait for comments.)

I don't think I've heard that specifically, but I have heard that the crops used to feed animals that we eat could feed everyone in the entire world many times over

In the not too distant future, synthetic meat will be cheaper and better quality than the real thing. Real meat will be considered a cruel "luxury" item like ivory or foie gras.

All those dumbasses who say "I'LL NEVER CHANGE! REAL STEAK 4 EVER!" are going to be paying a huge premium because the majority of the cattle industry will disappear.

is synthetic meat vegan, or will there also be dumbasses who say "I'll never eat steak! NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS FOREVER!"?

Thankfully, this time I constructed them using a very rigid design, virtually impossible to twist. Years of trial and error... thanks for the tip

I like how posters will upload their health status, morning routines, entire sex lives, and every bowel movement to this site, but the minute somebody mentions wanting to become vegan, it's all "OMG YOU JUST HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE THAT YOU'RE VEGAN NOW"

Can somebody make a list of what life event topics are obnoxious to discuss, and which are fine?

Btw, check out the Friday Hate My Life thread for the latest mundane Disco Date story.

I think for most non vegans the scepticism is best expressed by the question “why do you suddenly care about this?” with some suspicion that the answer involves the getting out of dong

That line of scepticism makes no sense at all. Why should it matter how far into someone's life they become interested enough in an issue to dedicate themselves to it?

Any sudden change in personal values prompts scepticism I reckon, especially if it doesn’t seem to align in any way with your personal history

Like you’ve never once said anything about animal welfare and then one day, out of the blue you’re like hey fuckers, stop eating animals, I’m vegan now
