Radiohead ripping off SP again.
fist they copy the "free album" model that billy pioneered first with machina II
and now they're starting the tour playing the entire new album in order, followed by other stuff at the end. EXACTLY like the Oach tour. fuck you thom and your ugly eye. |

Is redbull trolling about not being sure whether or not the initial post was trolled?

I wondered in another thread recently who was the first major artist to release an album for free on the internet.
Apparently Offspring did it in like 1998, which beats out MII |

it shows my edit was after your post, so I'm the one that looks like the clown. I had to look it up.
so it's still smashing pumpkins that did it first. |

Billy only did the free album thing because the record company refused to release the unfinished half of his shitty concept album.

I really thought the re-issues Gish --- Machina was going to be the one project that would get completed. They were cruising along on those things. Oh well, at least we got adore.
The Bollster should copy radiohead. Put 16 and 20 year old songs from more creative times on new records. |

what was the first band to implode so badly that they gave their music away in a fit frustration?
doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment. |

I mean that's not really a fair characterization. Most of us consider MII to be a really good album and it was the label's blunder to not release it. Original SP quit on top, and since the band was no more anyway, Bill didn't have much to lose by giving the music away. It was a a great way to cap their legacy.
IR is an amazing album and was released for free basically because Radiohead owns the world and the publicity/cool factor is worth more to them than money at this point. I don't think either of these artists gave their music away "in a fit of frustration." |

Machina went gold and gave them several hit songs. It was a relative success. So they did go out on top.

or rather, Melvoin going out caused that to be the absolute maximum
if they were really rock and roll they would've kept touring |

is weasel a poots troll cause that is some poots level contrarianism. yeah, they were bigger in 96 but they were still a huge world class rock act in 2000, Jimmy was back, the final tours were amazing, the fans were happy, and they weren't going out after putting out a string of very disappointing releases, Bill losing his ability to sing and write songs, all the original members leaving, etc.
