Default The new Pixies album "Head Carrier"

Holy shit. I had no idea they even had a new album coming out. I'm super surprised that it hasn't been talked about here.

What's the verdict? It any good?

I'm just searching for a d/l now.

Not that great, and this is coming from someone who actually liked Indie Cindy/The EPs. I've given it three whole spins. Paz gets lots of air-time (and that's a good thing), but it feels watered-down and tired. Almost like their version of Monuments to an Enema. Almost.

The third track (I can't be fucked to remember the name) sounds like vintage Foo Fighters. I thought that was kinda neat.

I only listened to a single so far (had some cartooned music video in an apartment building or something). I dunno, it sounded like Pixies, but it also sounded boring and watered-down. FlamingGlobes comparing it to new Pumpkins seems apt. I haven't listened to Monuments, but as something like Oceania goes, it's like, sure, it sounds kinda like the band's "sound," but without chutzpah.

That sucks man aside from Bagboy and Indie Cindy I didn't much care for the EP's. There was some cool ideas and stuff, but the execution was kinda lacking. A comparison to Monuments and Oceania is actually apt.

I can't find a torrent anywhere of it. Seems like their labels been pretty active in getting them all removed. I was just gonna stop by the record store on the weekend and pick it up along with the new Green Day album, but maybe I'll just hold off until more torrents inevitably pop up.

But that's okay; just about every other album I picked up this year rocked my tits off.

This is reassuring. The thought of the Pixies going on a SP like decline would break my heart.

Really? That blows man. Haven't bothered downloading that yet either. I think I'll just go old school and buy the CD and then pop it in for the first time. I'm really not expecting much as their trilogy sorta sucked balls, and the album before that only had like 2 songs that I liked.

Plus, Billie Joe's sober now. It's sad to say, but artists always go downhill when they get clean. Just look at Corgan.

I really dug the latest offerings from Deftones, Weezer, Joy Formidable and M83, just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's been others I'm forgetting.

i happened to catch one of the new songs on the radio the other day, and though i admittedly never was a big pixies fan at all, i found it incredibly boring and straightforward. nothing separating it from literally thousands of other identical rock songs.

Yeah, I loved the new Weezer. I still gotta check out that Joy Formidable album. Is it better than their 2nd full length? I thought the first full length was great but the 2nd one seemed kind of "samey" like they were sorta just aping a formula.

Hitch is better than Wolf's Law is some respects. The production isn't as glitzy, but it does tend to wear on a little too long for its own good. Still, lots of good songs/moments packed into it.

Should also mention I really loved the new Thrice. They seem like something you *might* enjoy.

don't listen to just one song. they probably picked the worst song and made it a single.
