I doubt it. Pavement broke in a big way in 94 and as the story goes, they couldn't play that year because of Billy but were promised a spot on the bill the following year, which they played.

I don't know what in the world you're getting at with the 1979 thing. They'd cover it from time to time doing a faithful cover and as far as I know that was only during 1 tour cycle.

And I have to laugh at you talking about the Brazil festival in 2010. The big bands from that show were streamed live. I watched it. Pavement was great and had an EPIC set list! That was my go-to drunk viewing performance for months, I'd still watch it but I can't find it on Youtube anymore. In comparison, SP was fucking B-R-U-T-A-L. It was honestly a nail in the coffin as far as my fandom went. I tried to give the Byrne era a chance, but after watching that concert, I knew that they were simply terrible.

Look buddy, I know you won a little Smashing Pumpkins quilt, so you're all gleeful in your fandom, but if you actually think that this is good, then I hate to say it but you're a lost soul.

I'm not allowed to talk politics here, but I will say that my love affair with him is waning a bit, despite all of the positives.

Since everyone is left or left-leaning here, I don't think anyone will mind me saying this: I was reading the gen forums and it's cool that you like Tulsi Gabbard RBG. She has some awesome ideas, If a Democrat wins in 2020, I hope it's her. She's a veteran and she's smart as a tack. Definitely someone worthy of holding the historic title of the first American woman president.

Yikes, that is an awkward situation.

Must've been rough for Jell-O too. At least for them, I don't think they make pudding-pops anymore though. Those were synonymous with the Cos

Pavement: Range Life

After the glow, the scene,
The stage, the set
Talk becomes slow
But there's one thing I'll never forget
Hey, you gotta pay your dues
Before you pay the rent

Over the turnstile turn out in the traffic
There's ways of living
It's the way I'm living
Right or wrong,
It's all that I can do,
And I wouldn't want to let you be
I want a range life,
If I could settle down,
If I could settle down,
Then I would settle down
I want a range life,
If I could settle down,
If I could settle down,
Then I would settle down

Run from the pigs, the fuzz,
The cops, the heat
Pass me your gloves, there's crime
And it's never complete
Until you snort it up or shoot it down
You're never gonna feel free
Out on my skateboard
The night is just hummin'
And the gum smacks are the pulse
I'll follow…
I assumed that anyone who devotes time to a Smashing Pumpkins message is familiar with their 90's counterpart classic by now.

O.K., nevertheless, here are the complete lyrics:

Pavement: Range Life

After the glow, the scene, the stage, the set
Talk becomes slow, but there's one thing I'll never forget
Hey, you gotta pay your dues before you pay the rent

Over the turnstiles and out in the traffic
There's ways of living; It's the way I'm living

Pass me your gloves, this crime, it is never complete
Until you snort it up and shoot it down, you're never gonna feel free

Out on my skateboard, the night is just humming
And the gums smacks are the pulse I'll follow if my Walkman fades
But I've got absolutely no one, no one but myself to blame

But don't worry, we're in no hurry
School's out, what did you expect?

I want a range life
If I could settle down
If I could settle down
Then I would settle down
I want a range life
If I could settle down
If I could settle down
Then I would settle down

Out on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins
Nature kids, I, they don't have no function
I don't understand what they mean and I could really give a fuck

The Stone Temple Pilots, they're elegant bachelors
They're foxy to me, are they foxy to you?
I will agree they deserve absolutely nothing, nothing more than me

Dreamin', dream dream dream dream dream

You watched the festival online, I was there. With Pavement fans, who were left disappointed, as the band had an attitude and never interacted with the crowd – in fact SM played half of the concert with his back to us.

That stream is so bad is laughable you believe the band sounded that live. Here's more like how it was:

Can you tell the difference? Cab you here more then Billy's voice? See the crowd going mental? That's how it was.

I don't even understand what Range Life is about.

Is it about living an artist's life and not selling out?

It's about how a band should pretend not being pretentious by pretending they are a garage/lo-fi band even though they play expensive instruments.

How did you feel about that swipe at the Pumpkins in Pavement‘s “Range Life” [‘Out on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins. . . . They don’t have no function/I don’t understand what they mean/And I could really give a fuck”]?

How about let’s start with jealousy? There’s always been flak we’ve gotten from certain bands – the Mudhoneys and Pavements of this world – that somehow we cheated our way to the top, that we deceived the public to get where we’re at. We have our own level of integrity that we’ve kept to, and we’re not going away.

So I think it’s rooted in jealousy, the kind where someone is looking at a picture and saying, “This is where I belong, and I don’t understand why I’m not there.” It shows true pettiness. And on top of that, Pavement started a rumor that I kicked them off Lollapalooza [in 1994], which was totally untrue.

I had no problem with Pavement. When I met the guys from Nick Cave’s band, they said they were told that I’d tried to kick them off the bill, too. I’m totally a Nick Cave fan. That was astounding to me, maybe Pavement didn’t start the rumor. Maybe it was some industry insider: “Blame it on Billy.” But stuff like that is really pathetic.

It’s as if the commercial success of alternative rock has created this exclusionary mentality in the underground regarding issues of purity and motive.

It’s like high school all over again. You have the football team, except the football team is the guys in Pavement and Mudhoney. And they’re all patting themselves on the back for how cool they are instead of healthily challenging themselves to greater heights. A lot of these bands have spent a lot more time worrying about what they look like in public, what their stature is than doing what they’re supposed to be doing, what their fans would want them to do. Which is be the best band they can be.

STP were mentioned in the diss too, and to my knowledge they never said a word about it in response. Too busy dealing with Scott Weiland's shenanigans for a petty feud I guess.
