Not once did I read or hear any promotion about Tommy F'ing Lee! THAT alone would boost sales. They arent pushing that aspect of the album at all, which to me could be considered a promotional stunt at the very least. But nobody is promoting that! Weird if you ask me. Maybe T&T is right maybe these were done as a contractual obligation. I told many people TLee was putting an album out with BC and they all never heard anything about it. At all. 10 years ago this would be HUGE - like the Iommi collaboration - we all were anticipating a rocker. Fell flat here though.
Any moron would know to promote Tommy Lee here. Why wouldn't they? It automaticaly gives BC street cred, too. Makes him seem like a legit rock star. Why arent they promoting it as such?? VERY ODD!!! |

Does it mention Tommy on any of the print adds?
They should also put a sticker on the album hyping up the Tommy Lee factor. |

I still don't understand why an alternative artist, who is rich enough to make music without caring about the money it generates, feels any needs to crave mainstream success?
Wasn't it all about "fuck the man", we do what we want? I guess the only reason I care about SP sales is because of the influence that it would be likely to have on the bands career direction too. But it really shouldn't matter at this point should it? |

Corgan just feels like he doesn't get the appreciation that he deserves, so he's really trying to make another smash-hit to retain some relevancy

It must be difficult going from being biggest band in the world to having a 20k fanbase.
To some bands that would probably be a success, but contextually it's a huge drop-off. Even if you've had 20 years to get used to the idea. Song quality aside (and MTAE is pretty good), Billy's singing is always going to put off the mainstream. It's better live than on record - more rawk and less... nasal tea so for the past decade he's been better suited to stripped down, acoustic songs. So I imagine that's where we're headed at some point unless he forms a band with another singer a la Zwan (ah, squandered potential). But honestly, I think MTAE is the best the fans and Billy can rightfully expect at this point, in that this is the best Billy can produce without the original line-up and without collaborating, and the positive response from the fanbase is the best he can hope for given he just isn't a well-known or relevant commercial pop artist anymore - and that isn't what he should be aiming for anyway. He hinted in an early interview that Being Beige was emulating Coldplay, but Coldplay themselves are now entering the veteran stage of their career, barring some unlikely U2-style resurgence it's mostly downhill and greatest hits sets for them from this point out. I'll be interested to see the direction he takes with D4N and afterwards to see whether he follow-ups "the TBK project" with a different sound entirely. that's such a bullshit claim, have sales dropped? sure but there's so much assumption that just because people have torrent clients and, i don't know, itunes? that they're just completely forfeitting the idea of buying an album
some of the most interesting albums have come out in the past 5-10 years and that's due in no small part to the fact that obviously people are still getting and listening to them hell every time i drop by the local f.y.e. or best buy there are at least 2-3 people looking at/buying albums of either cd or vinyl format and those are just the "casual" outlets there's not really much other validation for a store like say, amoeba maintaining its business and whatnot, and lord knows that place is never empty |

'Being Beige' is a good song but poor choice for first single. I can't understand who thought that would be a good move. 'Monuments' should have been the lead single. I could see that getting a lot of radio play.

For whatever reason, country and rap are the only 2 categories that still sell albums. Taylor Swift's last album was an absolute monster. And it's not unusual at all for massive bands to complete fall off the map, especially solo artists like Billy (the SP name is meaningless now because the public considers SP a solo act, and rightfully so). If Billy is chasing modern relevance, the only thing that would move albums and sell out arenas would be a full reunion of the original band. And that is basically impossible. . country and rap are more concentrated amongst lower SES populations, i.e. they get their music from the local walmart and probably can't afford reliable internet or streaming devices in many cases

http://www.statista.com/statistics/1...es-since-2009/ Jack White's Lazaretto made it to the biggest selling vinyl album since V - in 2014. yes, streaming tops album sales, but it's not like album sales are dead - even if you don't do country rap. |

So can we assume it was a top 10 seller last week on Billboard's 200?

Maybe some might be too young to remember D'Angelo. He was a soul and r&b artist in the 90s. He was pretty big during SPs heyday (around '96). He's sometimes credited for the "soul revival" that ushered in acts like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Macy Gray (among others). Which in turn influenced British soul and r&b acts like Amy Winehouse, etc.
