lolol guys

well the most incredible thing happened.
after smoking the weed i had bought, and not feeling a goddamn thing over a couple of different times, tonight i went over to beavis' house and smoked a phat joint that got me really tripping.

i have thought of what could cause such a perplexing conundrum, and have arrived that the conclusion that i must have smoked it wrong.

thank you all for you time.

I'm a big fan and respect their artistic merit, but I'm afraid to say I feel like it's kind of a bland effort. Before when they took crazy artistic turns it was exciting and unexpected... But it sorta sounds like they're lazily following a formula at this point...

... No big surprise though, it happens to about 92% of all once relevant artist as they move on into their 40's.

seminal bleep bleep bloop artist Radiohead's 9th album is a pensive and somnambulant spirit walk into surreal soundscapes, dream gardens, and alien worlds as usually experienced only by those fast asleep. Favorites:

Decks Dark is the best track on the album and one of the best songs they've ever done IMO. It has such an infectious groove. I love when the choral part comes in at ~1:25. Also it's fucking sick when the song changes a minute and a half from the end and they just riff on their instruments a bit. Desert Island Disk is weirdly psychedelic for Radiohead and also a great fucking song. It actually reminds me a little bit of Suffer at certain moments. Identikit is another excellent groover. I love how the song changes and then comes full circle. The bass line is killer and the dual guitar thing at the end is orgasmic. Also noteworthy is Present Tense. The guitar work here is my favorite on the album. One of their prettiest songs.

there are no bad songs here, but I would say Burn the Witch, Ful Stop, and True Love Waits are the weak links. Something about BtW and Ful Stop is really unfulfilling to me, like I want the songs to do more but they never really "get there."

I would say give it more listens. I think this is their most understated, nuanced album. There is a lot going on below the surface. At first I kind of thought the same thing, but upon further listening it started to sound more unlike their past works.

Decks Dark is really excellent you're right about that

I'm still absorbing it all listening to it everyday this is a fantastic album, one of their best

I have to say I prefer the live version of True Love Waits though

I really like Ful Stop for what it is, but it takes so long to build up and then once it reaches climax, it sounds like a more subdued version of Jigsaw Falling Into Place than its own thing. I do think this album would have benefited from at least one frenetic, intense song, and Ful Stop is almost that. So is Burn the Witch, but they never totally break out into the kind of intensity that Jigsaw has.

I also prefer the live version of TLW. I've heard it a million times and it's weird hearing a song that was released like 15 years ago on a studio album.

first of all i would like to assert with total confidence that none of you have any idea what you are talking about. my opinion is the only one which carries any weight.

this is a decent record. it has some classic radiohead songs that rank with the best, namely true love waits (the bestest), daydreaming and glass eyes. then there are the cool songs like identikit. most of the rest are just alright.

so i'd rank it above httt but definitely (most def) not on the level of in rainbows, amnesiac, tkol, or the bends.

spoken, have i, my children

sorry to keep talking (i took some pills) but true love waits is one of their best songs

"true love waits, in haunted attics,
true love lives, on lollipops and crisps."

"Thom Yorke got the lyric, "True love lives on lollipops and crisps" from a newspaper article he was reading. The story was about a 10 year old boy who was left home alone for 2 days, and the boy lived on lollipops and crisps (potato chips). True love can be anything."

cool huh

I like this album probably more than In Rainbows but I was never like gushing over IR

It's darker so it's inherently better from the start

It's nice to get a big grand sound from Radiohead again they are one of the few bands with a sound like that that I really enjoy

That's funny, I would say IR is much darker and this one is airy and dreamier. It is more similar to IR than any of their other records though. It's almost like tKoL was one possible evolution of the IR sound, and then they backtracked and gave us this other alternate reality.

This album is great. Full stop.

Also if you haven't gone back and listened to the full two discs of IR, do it. Beautiful, lush album. This is its darker cousin.
