Mellon Collie is the masterpiece, the band at their peak.
SD would be the only other acceptable answer. |

Most votes would be for SD and MCIS followed by Adore then probably Gish or Machina 1 then Machina 2.
If I had to choose a masterpiece I'd probably choose SD only because it is the least flawed album containing a number of Pumpkins classics like Geek, Soma, Mayo, Cherub, etc. MCIS demonstrates the range of the band with by far the most varied content with many great songs. I love Adore and its my favourite at times but I wouldn't rank it above those two because its weaker moments (Perfect and Appels + Oranjes IMO) tend to be weaker than MCIS (bar Take me down) and SD. But it has a very different sound and I love its atmosphere. |

I agree tonight tonight is utterly amazing and so universal.
I love mcis..it means a lot me and was my first SP album. Both MCIS and SD are masterpieces in their own way. SD is the perfect album with perfect songs in the perfect order. MCIS is in your face and so diverse yet put together at the same time. It has so many UBER amazing songs. I can't choose. |

Honestly, forever SD was a top 5 album ever for me. Loved the hell out of it. MCIS was always thought of as being top 20-25, though.
However, recently, i can't get enough of MCIS and SD. I think they're both in the top 5 now, and I honestly can't say which is higher. Seriously, in the past 2 months ive embraced like 8-10 songs on MCIS, and in the last 2 days i finally learned to love Jellybelly and By Starlight. |

not surprisingly, i float between SD and MCIS. i believe SD is the more concise, more influential record. HOWEVER, MCIS can go toe to toe with any album of all time in creativity and sheer percentile of inspired, amazing tracks.
i am split... SD is more influential, more direct and will probably go down in history as the critics darling, but i love MCIS and am so impressed i want to call it the masterpiece |

i want to get some sort of 3d diagram happening... who is from eurpope and prefers the later material? my experience is that the euros love adore and machina and are indifferent towards SD and MCIS. this seems crazy to me, but it would explain some cracked-out posts i'e seen around here

siamese dream is their best & their masterpeice. Over the last 13 years I have jammed to this album and yet it doesnt get old. Mellon Collie is amazing but some of the songs dont have me coming back for more like sd.........the songs from sd just draw emotions out of you.
for someone wanting to get into sp I would recommend mcis...then sd.....then gish...I am one and siva back to back are an amazing intro to any album |
